Age of Empires 2 is probably one of, if not, my favorite game of all time. I cannot begin to explain how much has it impacted in my life. The gameplay, the action, the frustration, and, of course, the soundtrack (I’m a musician, after all). And what would be a great gift for me is that more people get to experience this game as well as I did more than 20 years ago. With the arrival of the game to Xbox consoles, I think this will be true. However, now that this game is multi-platform, is Age of Empires 2 cross-platform or cross-play? Is Age of Empires 2 Cross Platform/Cross Play?
Now that Age of Empires 2: Definitive Edition is available on Xbox One and Xbox Series X/S, many are wondering if console players will be able to play the classic AoE game with PC users. Well, all players will be pleased to know that both cross-platform and cross-play is available now that Age of Empires 2 is available in multiple platforms. It certainly helps that all platforms belong to Microsoft, but anyway.
One could wonder, “hey, but won’t console players be handicapped by using a controller compared to PC players’ keyboard and mouse”. Well, probably, but here is some further good news: for all console players, Age of Empires 2 will be compatible with a keyboard and mouse. So, yeah, the battleground is pretty much flat. The game has also implemented a new way to play it with a controller, so I don’t think that you will have a bad time playing it that way.

So that is some great news for all of us AoE fans. Let’s give this game a chance and play it in whichever platform you own. Pick your civilization, build your cities, train your units and conquer the world. That is what fun is all about, my friend!
