Destiny 2’s Season of Plunder came with some new activities, weapons, and secrets to uncover over the course of the next few months. Including the Cryptic Quatrains quests and their various riddles. However, you might find yourself stuck with a strange riddle about an atlas, the Crude Cipher fragments, and two beacons. Which is needed to complete all of Season 18’s challenges.

How to Use the Crude Cipher in Destiny 2
The Cryptic Quatrains in Destiny 2 are a set of three quests containing riddles that lead to buried treasure hidden throughout different locations in the game. Each of these quests has multiple steps, resulting in the discovery of various rewards, including unlocking the Crude Cipher for the Captain’s Atlas in the third and final quest. Completing these also unlocks progress for Destiny 2 seasonal challenges and the Beacon’s Guidance triumph, required for the Scallywag title.

In the Cryptic Quatrains questline, players will obtain special items known as Crude Cipher fragments. They will look like torn map pieces until you’ve gathered both pieces, which automatically turns them into the Crude Cipher. The first fragments are part of the reward for the fourth Cryptic Quatrains 1 riddle solution, while the second is part of the reward for the fifth Cryptic Quatrains 2 riddle solution.
After you’ve found the fragments, you won’t have to worry about them until you’ve reached the fourth riddle in the Cryptic Quatrains 3 questline. The riddle will be as follows;
“Alone with me atlas and treasure at last – I use me crude dagger to cut out a code – This cipher I’ll place where it’s held safe and fast – Two beacons will guide you if treasure you’re owed.”
Each word in the riddle that is orange in appearance forms the true riddle hidden within. So, in this case, the riddle would actually be; atlas crude cipher two beacons. This riddle explains how you must pull up your Captain’s Atlas, at which point you should see the Cryptic Cipher, along with other items you’ve gathered so far.
From here, you will need to move the Cryptic Cipher over the atlas to reveal two beacons and complete the riddle. You will know the riddle has been completed because the atlas will reveal hidden compartments, which are part of the next riddle.
