That's a great question.

The number of items found across the lands stashed in chests and caches, dropped by enemies and given as rewards by NPCs can oftentimes seem overwhelming. However, each of these items serves a purpose, although at first, they may seem like dead weight in your inventory. One item that fits that bill perfectly is the Silver Ingot. Silver Ingots in Baldur’s Gate 3 are an early game item you will be able to find across the Forgotten Realms. You can come across them by opening chests and crates. These ingots, just like other items you can pick up, will occupy a space in your inventory. They will also contribute to your carry limit. While these are reported as crafting items (with no in-game explanation or clarification on how to use them), there’s no early game use of these items, since they can potentially higher tier weapons and armor.

So, you can stockpile them in your Traveler’s Chest back at your camp, or you can sell them to make a quick buck. Each piece is sold for 50 gold pieces. Combine that with its in-game commonality and you have a great source of income. Saving some of those ingots for future upgrades or crafting is a good idea as well. Don’t think too much about it, several gamers have yet to find some use for these Silver Ingots in Baldur’s Gate 3.
