How to Use Bond Fragments in Fire Emblem Engage

A unique way of hitting nostalgia

Fire Emblem Engage is incredibly different to its predecessors for its unique Ring System. Bringing back the old, beloved Characters to Battle alongside the new, Fire Emblem Engage allows the old and new fans to unite in a way that we have never seen before. Characters who have not seen screen-time since the 90s and noughties return in the form of a Ring, boosting the brand new Protagonist and their Allies in Fire Emblem Engage. With the new System of Rings means a new way of combat, combining the strengths of multiple Characters into a single force of the Divine Dragon. This is how to make Bond Rings and use Bond Fragments in Fire Emblem Engage.

What are Bond Fragments and Where to Get Them?

Bond Fragments are materials that can be used to craft Bond Rings. They can be obtained in various ways such as communicating with your Allies post-fight, donating coin to other Countries, completing Bulletin Board Achievements (hitting Objectives), by fishing and completing your Strength Training goals. To create a single Bond Ring, you need 100 Bond Fragments. The other option is to craft 10 Bond Rings at once, using a total of 1,000 Fragments. The Bond Fragments get transformed into metal and melted into a mould to create a new Bond Ring.

But what are Bond Rings? These are incredibly important to Fire Emblem Engage, in fact the whole purpose of the Rings is in the title. Players can Engage with their Emblem to boost their Stats mid-fight. The Emblems are former Fire Emblem Characters and Allies that appeared in past Fire Emblem games. They make their return in the form of the Emblem Ring, with their soul entrapped inside much like a Pokémon in their Poké Ball.

Whilst you will have a single Bond Ring that acts as you primary source of power once you Engage with the Emblem, transforming your Protagonist and Allies into a intertwined form of themselves and the Allie within the Ring, you can also meld these Bond Rings to create a stronger Ring that is outlined by the metal used. You will start with a Bronze/Copper Ring and through creation and melding of Bond Rings, you can upgrade to Silver, Gold and so on.

How to Use Bond Fragments

Bond Fragments are used at the Central Pedestal of the Ring Chamber. From here you can Create Bond Rings, either by 1 or by 10. These require a specific amount of Bond Fragments to make and once made, you will be given a Bond Ring matching to a former Character of the Fire Emblem Franchise. You should then head into Meld Bond Rings in the Central Pedestal Menu, where you can now combine your Bond Rings together. You can only do this if you have multiple Bond Rings of the same Character created using the Bond Fragments. When making Bond Rings however, you cannot choose what Character you want. The Bond Rings are randomly created so you do not know who you are going to get and what ranking they will have from C-A.

The alphabetical system is one that most Fire Emblem players will be used to as you will refer to this in your Relationship Bond with your Allies as you progress through the game. This same system is used with the Bond Rings, as C matches the Bronze Ring, whilst A is for Gold Rings. Each Bond Ring has special Stats that can be combined together with another Bond Ring of the same Character to boost the Stats of the Ring further. As you upgrade the Bond Rings, you will need more Bond Fragments to Meld but your Stats will increase whilst also giving players new Skills that can be used within a fight.

How to Equip Bond Rings to Emblems

Now that you have made Bond Rings and upgraded them through Melding, you now need to equip the Rings so that you can use them in Battle. To do so go into Emblem Rings via the Somniel Menu. With all of your in-game Allies that you will control during Battle, you can select what Bond Ring is attached to their Emblem. Refer to your Allie’s Stats on the left-hand side of the screen when selecting what Bond Ring you wish to equip alongside the Emblem. These will never appear during Battle unlike the Emblem itself but, they can help you throughout Fire Emblem Engage as they boost your Stats whilst also providing new Skills.
