Players may want to put a fair amount of hours in before thinking about the mod system.

There are a myriad of ways to customize just about everything in Midnight Suns. From your main customizable character to different skins, cards, and team compositions. In the aspect of deck building, Firaxis Games has made sure that every player has the chance to play the game their way. One key system to promoting the longevity of this game is the ability to apply random mods to cards. This could be a simple modification like increasing the amount of damage a card does. People getting their hands on this might realize that mods are not immediately available at the start of the game. Far from it in fact. The developers stated in a livestream a few days before release that they suspect it will take about 20 hours until people will be able to unlock the ability to apply mods. This may seem like a staggering amount of hours to put into a game before unlocking such an in-depth feature. When you consider that it takes about 40-60 hours to fully complete the game, you can see how 20 hours is just scratching the surface of what they’ve made.

When you’ve made it to around the 20-hour mark, players should be well acquainted with the yard. A place where you go to train with or against other heroes, upgrade abilities and more. The yard itself can be upgraded and by doing so enough, will unlock the ability to add mods to cards.

Clearly, Firaxis has spared no expense when fleshing out their game. The option to include such a system with that much potential variety that far into the game, shows pride in their game. Where some games unlock mods after the tutorial, Midnight Suns aims to refresh the gameplay over and over, even 20+ hours in.
