One of the ways Midnight Suns helps to develop its combat mechanics is with the introduction of Mark effects and Quick cards. During a fight, players can use cards such as Iron Man’s Mark Target that applies 2 marked status effects to an enemy. Whenever a marked enemy is defeated, a card will be refunded back to you. Similarly, Wolverine’s Quick Swipe will refund a card if the enemy gets knocked out from the attack. Due to the nature of cards like this, players have already begun wondering if they can stack these two effects. Doing so would reward the player with 2 refunded cards instead of 1. Sadly, it was confirmed by the developers before the release that “they don’t stack”. Which I believe was their way of making sure that players can’t refund cards infinitely. This makes people plan ahead and think carefully when choosing which targets to mark.

You will encounter a variety of different status effects throughout the potential 40-60 hour runtime of this game. Although, learning how Mark status and Quick interact Work in Midnight Suns will definitely help you along the way. Knowing that these effects don’t stack allow the player to further develop their playstyle by carefully selecting which targets to take down with a Quick card versus which ones will need to be Marked for later can be a lifesaver. There are lots of battles in this game that hinge on needing one more card, and this could give it to you.
