How to Turn Off Motion Controls in Splatoon 3

The time has finally come, Splatoon 3 is upon us and its fantastic gameplay comes with it. This new entry into the series brings many great updates to gameplay and the world around it with things such as Salmon Run and more refined gunplay mechanics. This is an almost night and day experience from the last game, Splatoon 2, offering players real reasons to invest in a new game.

And while all of these new features are well and good, there are a few that some players may have a hard time getting behind. One of those features is the motion controls that the game forces upon players at the very start of the game, making it impossible to swap out during the tutorial. Today, we’ll explain how to turn off those pesky motion controls so that you can play the game the way that you want to.

How to Turn Off Motion Controls in Splatoon 3

When starting Splatoon 3, things seem to be going great, you get to create a character and all seems right with the world. But the moment you get to take control of your character, things start to feel, just wrong. Splatoon 3 makes use of motion controls with the Nintendo Switch Joy-Cons when it comes to aiming. It’s a great feature to be sure, but not one that all players are going to enjoy.

If you’re in need of turning this feature off, we’ve got just the thing for you. The only downside is that you must complete the tutorial before being able to turn off motion controls, as the tutorial heavily uses them in its explanation of how things work. Once you finish though, you’re able to disable it as soon as you load into Splatoon 3’s main hub world, Splatsville.

• Once you’ve landed in Splatsville, hit X on your right Joy-Con.
• Next, tab over to Options using your R button on the right Joy-Con.
• From there, you can turn off motion controls for TV/Tabletop Mode as well as Handheld mode.
• The steps are the same for either method of gameplay.
• Go to the very bottom of the page to Motion Controls and toggle it Off.
• You can also adjust the sensitivity of Motion Controls if you’re just having issues with it being too slippery or sluggish.
• You can also adjust the look sensitivity of the R stick to make aiming easier in the same way.
• Once you’ve made your selections, back out and they’ll be saved.
