Taming Grasshopper in Smalland: Survive the Wilds

Taming grasshoppers isn’t too hard and it involves only a couple of steps. First things first, you need to know that grasshoppers are naturally very friendly and won’t attack you most of the time. However, in order to tame the grasshopper, you would need to attack it.

Pick up a blunt weapon, and hit the grasshopper over the head until it drops to about half HP. After that, approach it and feed it the Grasshopper treat, and then you will get an option to mount it.

Once you’ve mounted it for the first time the grasshopper is loyal to you. When you dismount it you will have options to either release him back to the wild, make him follow you, or simply tell him to wait for you in a certain spot. You will also get an achievement in the game for mounting the grasshopper.

What Do You Need for Taming the Grasshopper in Smalland: Survive the Wilds

We mentioned that grasshopper is tamed with Grasshopper treats, however, this treat can’t be found laying around. Instead, you need to make it yourself.

You won’t be able to start the grasshopper taming before you’ve reached the phase where you have the Stonecutter available. Use the Stonecutter with 10x Stone and 7x Refined Wood to craft the Cauldron, which allows you to cook various food and treat recipes.

Interact with the Cauldron and you will see on its menu the Grasshopper treat. The requirements for it are:

  • 3x Insect Eggs – drop from Ladybugs and Ants
  • 1x Pental – drop from Poppy flower
  • 2x Seed Oil – Poppy flower drops seeds which are then brought to the Stonecutter and crafted into Seed Oil

Things You Should Know When you Have a Grasshopper in Smalland: Survive the Wilds

Grasshopper is a very useful mount in the game that will prove itself useful in many situations, from traveling to fighting. Still, you should know its strengths and weaknesses before you tame it.

Grasshoppers fight with you whether you’re mounted or not, however, they don’t have a lot of HP so they can easily die to most enemies. They have some sort of beef with the ants it seems so on some occasions they will attack them at random even if you didn’t mean to go in a fight at that moment.

When they lose HP, you can heal them by dropping any food that says that you can feed it to the creature. They will instantly eat it and heal up.

You can instruct the grasshoppers to either run or jump, but that will drain their stamina so they can’t do it often. Interestingly enough, while mounting a grasshopper you can jump from any distance you’d like and you will land safely, taking no damage. But, keep a lookout on the puddles around the forest since grasshoppers die quickly if they land in the water.
