Slime Rancher 2 allows players to do exactly what it says on the tin. Wrangle slimes. But keeping up a successful, happy and profitable slime ranch isn’t easy, and there are ways and methods to keep the task from being too overwhelming and run smoothly. You’d better heed the following advice if you want to get anywhere in the game. Here is how to take care of your slimes in Slime Rancher 2.
How to care for your slimes in Slime Rancher 2
Double them up!
One of the first things to keep in mind is that it is easier and more profitable to wrangle the slimes in their Largo states. Find two slimes you haven’t wrangled yet and throw them into the same corral (high walls is a must!) so you will have around 8 – 10 Largos. Wrangling Largos has many benefits:
- You can fit in more slimes whilst only having half the corrals.
- You only need to provide enough food for one group of slimes whilst producing double the plorts.
- If you mix meat-eaters with a fruit or veggie slime, then you can get away with only feeding all of your slimes fruit or veg, which is much easier to grow than meat is to produce.
- They look absolutely adorable.
So, less food, less space, more plorts. However, you must keep in mind a few dangers…
Largos are one step away from becoming those monstrous Tarr abominations, so keeping your slimes segregated is a must, else all of your slimes will be consumed by the beasts.
The Largos will also have the abilities of both slimes types, so if they both pose problems if agitated, then you’ll be dealing with both problems! Try to only have one problematic slime in each Largo, so they don’t cause too much havoc if they become agitated.
Upgrade the Corrals
The Corrals do more than simply harbour your bubbly, bouncy slimes. They can also be upgraded with numerous features to make your job much easier. It would be heavily advised to purchase all the upgrades (aside from the solar shield, unless that slime type requires one) to keep your slimes calm, and the whole feeding and collecting process easy and automated.
An absolute must are high walls and air nets, to make sure your slimes stay contained, even if agitated.
Keep their favourite food growing
All slimes have a favourite food which can be found out in the Slimepedia. If a slime is fed its favourite food, then they will produce double the plorts, so if a Largo has any one of its two favourite foods, then it’ll be producing four plorts, which is big money.
For this reason, try to exclusively have farms and coops of your slimes’ favourite foods which can be found from scavenging or through pots. Doing this will keep them happy and make you money.
Keep. Them. Fed.
The only thing you really have to worry about when keeping slimes is making sure they are fed. If a slime goes without food, their little faces will drop, and they will become agitated. Agitated slimes are not good news.
Most slimes adopt a different behaviour, or intensify a current behaviour when agitated, which could cause serious problems for your ranch. Some slimes won’t react in a dramatic way, however some behaviours could result in slimes breaking free or wreaking havoc, potentially mixing too many plorts with too many slimes, leading to Tarr outbreaks.
A good way to make sure they kept satisfied is through stocked up auto-feeders full of their favourite food.
For slimes that have a lower agitation threshold, it is worth setting the speed to fast.
The most important thing to keep in mind is to not take on more than you can chew. It is tempting to want to collect every slime, but you can’t handle all of that at once! Start slow, and build your way up. Do not get overwhelmed. This is supposed to be a relaxing game.
