How to stop Peril from killing you in Warhammer 40K: Darktide

Being a space wizard is cool, but dangerous.

Warhammer 40K: Darktide is a game that enables you to unleash all of you pent-up frustration at the unholy subjects of Nurgle. If you play as the Psyker, then you will be unleashing not just your fury, but also your warp abilities. However, you cannot simply use your powers willy nilly; there is a certain danger to overextending yourself. Extremely damaging, a Psyker player must be careful not to accumulate too much Peril when tapping into the warp. Here’s how to prevent Peril build-up in Warhammer 40K: Darktide.

What is Peril?

Peril, in Warhammer 40K: Darktide, is a mechanic unique to the Psyker class. As Psykers use any of their powers or abilities, they are tapping into the warp. And this is not without consequences. Psykers can handle it, but only to an extent.

You may notice that when you charge your abilities or use them, a skull appears, with a percentage that rapidly climbs up. You need to keep this percentage below 100. This metre indicates your Peril.

Peril is gained as you use your abilities and rapidly climbs. If it hits 100%, your body will overload with the warp and you’ll be downed.

So you must be careful, you must not gather too much Peril else you, and possibly your team, will pay the price.

How to save yourself from Peril in Warhammer 40K: Darktide

Thankfully, your Peril will degenerate by itself as long as you aren’t tapping into the warp. This, however, is slow. There are a couple ways to quell your Peril as the Psyker.

Firstly, if you hold ‘R’, you will meditate, which accelerates the speed at which you lose Peril dramatically. You can move whilst doing this, but won’t have access to your weapons as long as you are holding ‘R’. This will generally be your only way to bring your Peril down to access the warp again.

There is another way, however. Your ability, Psykinetic’s Wrath, quells 50% of your Peril alongside staggering all the opponents in front of you. You can use this ability to cut your Peril in half before tapping right back into it, allowing for the use of more abilities in a shorter time than usual. Make sure to time it right to get the most use out of it.
