Starting Underground in Age of Wonders 4
In order to start underground, your race needs to have a Mind Trait called Underground Adaptation. There are dozens of Mind Traits in Age of Wonders 4 that provide your units and/or cities with unique bonuses. The Underground Adaptartion gives you the ability to start underground, to start with the Excavation empire skill, to build Farms on Cavern Floor terrain, and lastly takes away 2 move point cost on Cavern Floor, Fungus Fields, Mushroom Forest and Rocky terrain.
Whichever map you create in Age of Wonders 4, you should know that there will always be an underground. This tight space with its many advantages and dissadvantages comparing to the surface world has its appeal to many players and is providing opportunities for some unique strategies.
As you can see once you pick the right trait for starting underground you get more than a few advantages for your empire.
