How to Get More Heroes in Age of Wonders 4

As we mentioned everyone will have one hero when the game starts and that will be the faction leader. However, since heroes are required for many important in-game mechanisms such as founding Outposts, sieging cities, and exploring Ancient Wonders you would want to have more of them as your empire grows.

The first way you can get more heroes is by looking at the ones offering to join you. You can do this by clicking on the hero button in the top left corner, and then selecting Recruit. You will be able to see basic info about each hero so you can better decide who is the best fit for you.

Another way of recruiting more heroes is by simply encountering them in the vast world that you get to explore. Many individuals, free city governors, dissatisfied children of foreign leaders, or even your prisoners can be hired to be your beloved heroes and help you conquer the world.

Keep in mind that the game encourages you to have only one hero for each city that you have control over. You can hire above that limit if you are ready to pay more upkeep expenses.

What Are Heroes for in Age of Wonders 4?

Even though we mentioned briefly that heroes can govern cities, lead armies, and siege towns, we should underline that the main thing you need to pay attention to is balance. Don’t put all your heroes in battle or keep them in towns forever for the economy bonuses. Always try and have a healthy balance of having some heroes acting as governors while others are combat generals.

Heroes can be customized like a typical RPG character and wield magical items that can further boost the array of skills they have. When heroes get XP they can learn more skills and become better in certain aspects of waging war. Warfare skills help them in their overall fighting capabilities, Battle Magic improves magic damage while Support skills help them lead the army better from the backline.
