If you’re anything like me, then you believe that there’s no game out there quite like Minecraft. With its endless bounds of creativity and survival, there’s really something here for every gamer as anything can be created.
But one of the best things about the game is that it can be taken everywhere, thanks to its mobile port, Minecraft PE. But things on the mobile side aren’t as easy to maneuver as they are on other platforms, especially splitting items. So, let’s talk about how to split items in Minecraft PE.
How to Split Items in Minecraft PE
When it comes to splitting items in Minecraft PE, it isn’t as easy as it’s been for console or PC gamers. In fact, it’s actually kind of clunky and not very intuitive at all, specifically when using touch controls.
Touch Controls
Whether on Android or iOS, the very first thing you’re going to want to do is to make sure you have enough of something to split. You really only need 2 of whatever item it is, but the more you have, the more quantity of that time you can split.
What you’ll want to do is hold your finger on the base pile of the item, and you’ll see a green bar appear. The longer you hold your finger on the stack, the longer the green bar will get. The longer it gets indicates just how much you’re going to be splitting off of that pile. Once you’re satisfied with how much, just drag your finger to an open slot and the pile will move.

This version of splitting is definitely a double-edged sword. While it’s great to not have to keep splitting piles in order to get to the quantity you need of them, it’s pretty clunky to do since this green bar doesn’t show how many of that item are being split specifically until you move the pile to an open slot. It seems that this bar works in quarters, but it’ll take users time to get used to how it actually works.
Controller
Splitting with a controller is the exact same as it is on a console, with you just having to press a dedicated button while toggling over an item to split it. It’ll move to an open slot automatically. If you’re able to use a controller of touch controls, then I would highly recommend doing so, as the touch controls just don’t feel up to par.
