Much like Breath of the Wild, The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom introduces the player to the world through a tutorial section. After some dramatic cutscenes to start off your journey, Link will awake inside the Room of Awakening. This room is located atop the Great Sky Island, where players can familiarize themselves with new abilities and mechanics. With multiple shrines and caves on this island, you will need to take advantage of all the abilities you can get. Back to the room you wake up in, you might notice some interesting architecture on the walls. It turns out there is a puzzle in this room that will earn players a much needed location. We’re going to put on our thinking caps and figure out how to solve the first puzzle in Zelda Tears of the Kingdom. Otherwise known as the Room of Awakening Puzzle.
When Link first wakes up in the Room of Awakening, there will unfortunately be no way to complete the first puzzle. So while it’s technically the first puzzle that players will actually see in the game, they won’t be able to complete it until later. More specifically, once you complete the three shrines on the Great Sky Island, you’ll be told there is one more shrine you need to complete before you can progress further. A shrine conveniently located on the other side of the puzzle in the Room of Awakening.
How to solve the First Puzzle in Zelda Tears of the Kingdom – Room of Awakening Puzzle
By now, you should have obtained the majority of Links new hand-y abilities. To complete this puzzle, you’ll need to use the Ascend and Recall powers. When you teleport to the Room of Awakening, you’ll see two large moving gears on the wall with platforms sticking out from the center. Near the one lower to the ground, to the left of the stairs, will be a raised platform. Walk under this platform and use Ascend to get atop it.

From there you’ll be able to use your Recall ability on the first gear. This will reverse its movement, allowing you to jump on one of its platforms. And since its connected to the other moving gear, it will reverse its movement as well. You’ll need to jump from the first one to the second, before jumping off into a tunnel in the wall. This tunnel will lead you to the last shrine on the island, the Nachoyah Shrine. Across from the shrine will be a Steward Construct, running a crystal refinery.
