How to Save the Dog in Rewind or Die

No puppy left behind

Horror Games are puppies seem to go hand in hand in getting their consumer to care about the dreaded circumstances they are in. Whilst you do not need to align with the protagonist, having a puppy to take care of and save, it feels like this new damsel in distress has been a part of Video Game culture for many years. From the wild dog in Resident Evil 4, to the guidance of a pet dog in Yomawari, to playing ball with your guard dogs in The Last of Us II. Whilst sometimes they are a source of pure terror such as in Resident Evil 1 or Stay Out of the House, we love when we get the opportunity to befriend a pup in a Horror Game. As these are man’s best friend, learning that a pup is trapped inside the final area of Rewind or Die is heart-breaking, even though its code. So, this is our guide on how to save the dog in Rewind or Die.

How to Save the Dog – Good Ending Guide

In Rewind or Die, you get multiple opportunities to save the characters you meet along the way. These are Captain, the dog and of course, Tony, the protagonist. Depending on who you save here will determine the ending. Although the post-credit scene remains the same, it is good to know that your actions did not lead to the death of a friend…and Captain. The best ending you can possibly get in Rewind or Die is to free the Captain from the Incinerator and break the Padlock on the dog’s Cage to free him. Freeing the Captain can easily go wrong as you need to get inside his Cell to get Aaron’s Locker Key. He is the burned beyond identification guy in the back of Captain’s cell, a friendly reminder of what will happen to Captain if you mess up.

Locate and Shoot the Pig Statues

To get Captain out, you need to find the Power Supply and use the Red Valve to turn off the gas so that the Incinerator does not light. We have a full guide available here for this. But when saving the dog, you will need to obtain Bolt Cutters. These are found in a secret area where another Boss is located. Whilst Slaw demonstrates a somewhat supernatural ability in that bullets cannot put a man like Slaw down, you soon discover that there is a more powerful force at hand. But to find it, you need to locate the 5 Pig Statues around the Loft and shoot these to unlock the Basement.

The 5 Pig Statue locations are:

  • Behind Slaw’s body after you take him out with the revolver. Specifically, you need to open the large cabinet, located floor level. Inside, on top of a wooden plank, the first Pig Statue can be found.
  • Exit the top floor of the Loft and stand over the balcony, overlooking where the Van is. A Curtain is in the way, look to the top-right of this and across the wooden beam the Curtain dangles from. The second Pig Statue is here.
  • On the same platform, go into the corridor where you need to crouch twice over two metal beams to get to the other side. Enter the room on the left which has the PC in it. At the back of this room is a Locker labelled ‘Matt’. Open it and shoot the third Statue on the skeletal remains inside.
  • Go to the Operating Room on the ground floor where hospital tables and other skeletons can be found inside. You need to go to the left side of the room and behind the table with a skeleton on it. There is a small side table with a drawer, open it to find the fourth Pig Statue.
  • Head into the Freezer Room and go behind the Curtain at the back of the room, where the light switches from blue to an orange hue. In this room there is a conveyor belt, a ton of blood on the floor and a picture of the human anatomy in the back. Go to the table and the final Pig Statue can be found on the table surface.

With all Pig Statues located, you need to go to the Incinerator and look underneath the bales of hay. Skeletons can be found here, you should interact with them to see fire appear. Now you can head to the Boiler Room and use the Red Valve on the Pipe next to the DANGER Tank. This will unlock the Basement in the room beside the Boiler Room, taking you to the final Boss Fight of Rewind or Die.

Final Boss Guide

Conjure up the Final Boss through an incantation and observe the true terror of the gigantic and very much alive version of the Pig Statue. Clearly being the true source of evil that Slaw worshipped in his serial killing days. The main way the Pig fights is by sending flying giant and fiery Skulls at you. Much like fighting other giant Bosses in Horror Games, you need to keep moving around the arena and utilize the Pillars so that the Skulls hit these and vanish. When you evade the Skulls (which arrive in waves), pummel as many bullets as you can into the Pig’s head. Repeat this process and eventually the Pig will be defeated and you can pick up the Bolt Cutters offered via the cage which descends from the ceiling.

With the Bolt Cutters in hand, you need to go back to the upper floor of the Loft and into the corridor with the metal beams. This time when you reach the end, enter the room in the centre of the corridor (to the right of the PC Room). Inside this tiny room you will find the dog trapped inside a Cage. Use the Bolt Cutters on the Padlock to free the dog where you can make your escape from the Loft for good. Putting this horror behind you, knowing you did the best you could and saved the real hero of the story, the dog.
