How to Play Pokemon Scarlet and Violet at 60 FPS

Gotta Upscale 'Em All???

As trainers return to the Pokemon grind, one thing has been made clear: the graphical quality of these latest games isn’t the best that ever was. In fact, it looks as if both Scarlet and Violet aim for 30 FPS in both handheld and docked mode. This has some fans befuddled, as the Switch does support 60 FPS in many games, such as Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze and Mario Kart 8: Deluxe. It’s confusing, because Pokemon is one of Nintendo’s primary franchises, so it should — theoretically — support 60 FPS as well.

But, fret not, young pokemaniacs! I come bearing good tidings, with news of a mod that will — again, theoretically — allow you to play Pokemon Scarlet & Violet in full 60 FPS. Read on to learn more!

How to Play Pokemon Scarlet & Violet at 60 FPS

OK, so here is where I explain what I mean by theoretically. It would appear that one player/modder has created a mod for Scarlet & Violet that allows the game to run at 60 FPS. There is no public download link for this mod yet, and it’s a big if to say there ever will be, given Nintendo’s stance on mods. In addition to that, the mod would probably only work when applied to an emulated copy of Scarlet or Violet running on PC, so the issue is a lot more complicated than it first seemed.

It’s still incredibly cool to imagine the possibilities, however. I suppose for the time being, we’ll just have to imagine what a significantly upgraded Switch successor would be like.
