How to Play Area Zero in Multiplayer in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet?

Thankfully, you’re able to explore Area Zero in multiplayer just as you would any other area in the game. However, exploring this area in multiplayer might be a bit different than what you’re used to. Unlike in other areas of the game, you will not be able to see your friends while exploring Area Zero in multiplayer, even if you’re right next to them in-game. In the beginning, many people thought this was a bug or a glitch, but it’s actually intentional; in Area Zero, there are numerous version-exclusive paradox Pokémon that differ depending on whether you have Pokémon Scarlet or Pokémon Violet.

Not only are you unable to see your friends in Area Zero, but you’re also unable to see their version-exclusive paradox Pokémon. This allows each player, whether they have Pokémon Scarlet or Violet, to only see their own version-exclusive paradox Pokémon. This may seem annoying at first glance, but it allows each player to explore their game’s unique paradox Pokémon without getting bombarded with the paradox Pokémon of another game (though it is frustrating if you wanted to use the multiplayer feature to catch some version-exclusive paradox Pokémon from another game).

So, although you can explore Area Zero in multiplayer, just be aware that you won’t be able to see your friends while exploring. The games may receive an update remedying this in the future, but a major update like that likely won’t be seen in the near future, so you shouldn’t get your hopes up just yet.

How to Invite Other Players to Your Game in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet?

Using the multiplayer feature in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet couldn’t be easier! These games support up to 4 players at a time and you’re able to invite other players to join your world just as easily as you’re able to join the worlds of other players. To invite friends to your world, all you need to do is follow these steps:

  • Go to any Pokémon Center and interact with the yellow screen on the side of the structure
    • This screen will be directly above the yellow circle on the ground with the Poké Ball in the center.
  • Interacting with this screen should bring you to the Union Circle, where you will be given the options to “Form a group” and “Join a group”. To invite other players to your world, you’ll need to choose the “Form a group” option.
  • Choosing this option should generate a random Link Code that you’ll need to give to the people that you’re trying to play with.
  • Once you’ve relayed the Link Code to your friends, all they need to do is input the code into their games to join your world.

Explore the Hidden Treasures of Area Zero with Friends

Pokemon Scarlet and Violet’s first DLC is coming during the Fall and Winter of 2023 and it involves exploring a hidden area in Area Zero. We assume that this area will also be explorable with friends so that is an additional reason for going multiplayer.

New adventures await such as having joint training sessions with another Pokemon school and even going there as an exchange student.
