How to Pickpocket in Thief Simulator 2?

Whatcha packing?

You can find out a whole lot about a person by what they are carrying on them at all times. From packing an absolute weapon to somehow stuffing a crowbar in their back pocket, there is a lot to be said about the neighborhood residents in Thief Simulator. A trip around the block, doing some errand runs, or simply patrolling for a possible sighting of the nefarious burglar that simply won’t leave the residents alone (that’s you, by the way), the residents are on high alert, and rightly so. But if you are looking to make some quick money, gain some experience, and just ruin someone’s day – this is Vincent’s guide on how to pickpocket in Thief Simulator 2.

Pickpocketing Guide for Thief Simulator 2

Firstly, in order to Pickpocket, you must unlock the Pickpocket Skill under your Skill Tree which requires you to hit Level 3. Unlike other forms of pickpocketing done in video games such as Skyrim and Starfield, pickpocketing can be achieved by standing up.

However, the same system is in place for those attempting to pickpocket, which is that you have to remain undetected to the person you are pickpocketing. You can pickpocket in broad daylight, walking in the same walk cycle as your pickpocket victim. Approach the person you want to pickpocket until you see the on-screen Pickpocket Prompt. All you need to do is move the hand icon and keep it within the moving green bar to empty the person’s pockets.

Passers-by can be pickpocketed so long as you are in close proximity to them. You must always be looking at the person you are trying to steal off of and keep your eyes focussed on not only the green bar but the character’s walk cycle. If you are moving too fast or too slow, you will either alert the NPC to your crime or lose your pickpocketing progress. To pickpocket, simply approach and keep around a 1-metre distance from the target. Use the pickpocket button (‘E‘ on PC) to initiate the process and move the hand icon so that it remains in the green bar at all times.

Finally, there are another 2 bars to keep track of, these are the Bag and Exclamation Point Bars. The Bag tells you how far along your progress is on emptying the target’s pockets, whilst the Exclamation Point warns you if the target is becoming aware of the crime you are committing. When the Bag fills, you can walk away from the NPC with your pockets filled with their goodies. If the Exclamation Point fills, the target has noticed you and will either attack you or alert the police.
