What is a Steel Shiny Sandwich?

The new Picnic function in Scarlet and Violet allows players to increase their encountering odds of finding specific Pokémon. From small, to large, to the incredibly rare in that of the Shiny Pokémon of Paldea. Pokémon sandwiches offer temporary Meal Powers which aid the players in gaining bonuses and increasing their chances in catching and encountering. Each sandwich requires different ingredients, but there is common ground in the Shiny Sandwiches. These require Herba Mystica, something that is obtained in the post-game. These recipes rely on the special Herbs to do its job in aiding the player.

The Pokémon Meal Powers in Scarlet and Violet are:

  • Chance increase – The Encountering of all sizes (small & large), Shiny and Titled Pokémon in the wild and the Catching of specific wild Pokémon. Including the increase of Picnic Basket Pokémon Eggs.
  • Bonus increase – EXP bonus and dropped items from wild and Tera Pokémon.

Steel Shiny Sandwich Recipes

  • Intermediate Steel Shiny Sandwich Recipe – x1 Hamburger, x1 Salty Herba Mystica & x1 Sweet/Sour/Spicy Herba Mystica.
  • Expert Steel Shiny Sandwich Recipe – x2 Hamburger, x1 Prosciutto, x1 Red Bell Pepper, x1 Yellow Bell Pepper, x1 Green Bell Pepper, x1 Bitter Herba Mystica & x1 Spicy Herba Mystica.

The primary ingredient used in the Steel Shiny Sandwich is Hamburger. Depending on the recipe you are aiming to make will determine which Herba Mystica you require to complete the Steel Sandwich. For those looking to save a bit of time and money, we recommend making the Intermediate Steel Shiny Sandwich. Although, if you are a player whose luck is more on the side of obtaining Spicy and Bitter Herba Mystica, the Expert recipe is the one for you. No matter which you choose, this Shiny Sandwich gives the temporary Meal Powers of x3 Title Power, x3 Sparkling Power and x3 Encounter Power.

This guide shows you how to obtain all ingredients for the Intermediate Steel Shiny Sandwich in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet.

Where to Get Hamburger

When making Shiny Sandwiches in Scarlet and Violet, players should hit up the Mesagoza stalls on the western side of the central Paldea city first. Here, you can bulk buy items you need to make a ton of Shiny Sandwiches. As you only require the Hamburger as the core ingredient of the Steel Shiny Sandwich, players need to visit the store, Deli Cioso. This stall is located in:

  • Mesagoza
  • Porto Marinada (between West Province Area Two and Asado Desert)
  • Artazon (between South Province Area Three and East Province Area One)

Refer to the screenshot below for the exact location of Deli Cioso in Mesagoza (image 1) and Artazon (image 2)

How to Get Herba Mystica

Players must complete the entire game to begin their hunt for the Herba Mystica. To complete the game do these steps:

  • Obtain 18 Badges (Victory Road, Starfall Street and Path of Legends).
  • Beat the Final Boss in Area Zero.

After viewing the credits players need to do these steps to gain access to 6-Star Raids:

  • Defeat the Gym Leaders once more.
  • Complete the Academy Ace Tournament.
  • With access to 5-Star Raids, defeat 15 Raids to unlock 6-Star Raids.

With 6-Star Raids now unlocked, players can begin the hunt for Herba Mystica to complete the Steel Shiny Sandwich. Whilst it is not crucial for players to engage in 6-Star Raids, it is useful to have access to in case you temporarily run out of 5-Star Raids to complete that day. However, we recommend players target 5-Star Raids when searching for Herba Mystica. The reasoning for this is due to the low chance rate of obtaining Herba Mystica in both Raids. With a small 24% chance in 5-Star and 28% in 6-Star Raids. Due to its increased difficulty, players should target 5-Star Raids instead of 6 for Herba Mystica.

The Intermediate Steel Shiny Sandwich requires x1 Salty Herba Mystica with a combination of another Herb with one of the other flavours: Sweet/Sour/Spicy. This may take you longer to obtain as you are specifically searching for Salty Herba Mystica, there is far less ingredients to obtain in the Intermediate recipe than the Expert. The Pokémon you must target when looking for Herba Mystica in both 5- and 6-Star Raids are:

Salty Herba Mystica Raid Pokémon

  • Amoonguss
  • Avalugg
  • Blissey
  • Cetitan
  • Corviknight
  • Dondozo
  • Garganacl
  • Hippowdon
  • Orthworm

Sweet Herba Mystica Raid Pokémon

  • Amoonguss
  • Blissey
  • Cetitan
  • Dondozo
  • Goodra
  • Slowking
  • Tinkaton

Spicy Herba Mystica Raid Pokémon

  • Amoonguss
  • Annihilape
  • Blissey
  • Breloom
  • Bombirdier
  • Baxcalibur
  • Cetitan
  • Ceruledge
  • Dragonite
  • Dondozo
  • Garchomp
  • Gallade
  • Gyarados
  • Kingambit
  • Mabostiff
  • Revavroom
  • Scizor
  • Salamence
  • Staraptor
  • Tauros
  • Tyranitar

Sour Herba Mystica Raid Pokémon

  • Amoonguss
  • Armarouge
  • Blissey
  • Clawitzer
  • Cetitan
  • Dondozo
  • Glimmora
  • Gardevoir
  • Gengar
  • Magnezone
  • Volcarona

Players may increase their chances to 76% for 5-Star and 83% in 6-Star by targeting a specific set of 5 and 6-Star Pokémon. This is crucial in obtaining Herba Mystica to complete the Steel Shiny Sandwich Recipe. Whether you have a good Pokémon Build for Tera Raids or if you are just getting started, we recommend players continue to tackle 5-Star Raids for the special Herbs. The Pokémon with higher odds of dropping Herba Mystica are:

5-Star Raid Pokémon

  • Gengar
  • Blissey
  • Glalie
  • Drifblim
  • Amoongus
  • Eelektross
  • Dondozo
  • Palafin
  • Cetitan

6-Star Raid Pokémon

  • Blissey
  • Amoongus
  • Vaporeon
  • Dondozo
  • Farigiraf
  • Cetitan

By targeting these Pokémon, you are far more likely to obtain the Herbs you require. Obviously, this process takes longer than that of taking on all Tera Pokémon which can drop Herba Mystica in 5- and 6-Star Raids. But with consistency and patience, you can obtain enough Herba Mystica to make the Steel Shiny Sandwich and any other Shiny Sandwiches you require for Shiny Hunting.
