What is living off grid and why are people starting to do it? Living off grid is leaving your fancy penthouse and destroying all of your social media profiles. This isn’t a life for everyone and it definitely won’t guarantee you’ll turn into a celebrity. These Sims mean business because they’re choosing to live a sustainable life living off the land, finding their own food, and ignoring the glitz and glamour of San Myshuno. EA Games released a trait living off grid in 2019 that was tied into Sims 4 Island Living, however due to the latest patch, you can now live off the grid in the base game. Here’s everything you need to know about living off the grid.

Living off Grid Lifestyle in The Sims 4

Your entire way of living is about to change. Your water will be shut off, and electricity is absent, good luck with using a toilet. You’ll need to try another method. When you apply the off-the-grid lifestyle trait you will have access to a number of buy/build items. You can find items such as the Wood Burning Cookstove, using facilities that are outside, candles to brighten your surroundings, and you need water. You can’t just grab a glass and fill it with water from your sink. There are a few ways you can obtain this important resource:

  • Gather Water: Remember when you walked in the park and noticed a pond? There’s water there. Collect it.
  • Dew Collector: If you have the Eco Lifestyle pack you’ll gain access to the dew collector. This will help you get dew which you can use to shower.
  • Water Generator: A water generator is important when collecting water and is offered in the Eco Lifestyle pack.

You’re probably wondering how you can survive the night without any light source. Sure, you could use a simple candle to help brighten the room. There are other ways to create light and in order to do this you’re going to need electricity. Ways to get electricity in The Sims 4 are using the power generator and solar panels.
