How to Kill the Pyro Commander in Warzone 2.0 DMZ – Pyro Location Guide

Fight fire with fire

The newest Boss that entered the DMZ himself on April 14th, 2023, introduces players to his fiery Loadout. Being a tough Boss to face, with similar attributes to a Juggernaut, the Pyro Commander can be as difficult to find as it is to take this guy out. What is interesting about this Boss is that there is not one specific spawn in which you will find him every time you deployment. Unlike the Bomb Maker located in Tsuki Castle or The Chemist inside the Radiation Zone, the Pyro Commander seems to enjoy spending his time waiting for Operators in multiple areas. For those looking for this Boss, this guide will show you where to find him and how to take him out.

Where to Find the Pyro Commander in DMZ

As Bosses are restricted to only appearing in specific areas within a single Map of DMZ, players will find the Pyro Commander in Al Mazrah only. There are a couple of tips we want to recommend for players looking for the Commander. The first is to obtain a Light Helo. There is no need to grab a Heavy Chopper due to the need to refuel and find Chopper Fuel, so look at your Map Overview and go to the nearest Light Helo Icon. From here, sweep across the entirety of Al Mazrah but head only towards the Strongholds on the Map. As you fly over the game will tell you if the Pyro Commander can be found within via the visual notification of ‘Pyro Commander is Nearby’.

Alternatively, you can check the Weapon Case locations in Al Mazrah. Specifically the Control Tower at the Airport, the Downtown Post Office or the US Embassy in Al Mazrah City. When checking, refer to the Map Overview for the giant yellow circle on the Map with a question mark in the centre. This is the Weapon Case location, but it too holds the Pyro Commander inside. These three areas are the most likely spawns of the Pyro Commander and should be checked first. If the Weapon Case spawns on the Train, then you will need to check for the Commander via the Light Helo.

How to Get Inside the Stronghold

There is a massive problem in your plan to kill the Commander however and that is that every spawn of his is guarded by locked doors. The Strongholds will always be locked as you descend into the DMZ. Therefore, you need to open using a Special Key to get inside. The Keys you need then are the Control Tower, Downtown Post Office or the US Embassy. The Special DMZ Keys can be difficult to find as its predominately based on luck. Whilst you can take your chances trying to purchase your Key at the nearest Buy Station to the Stronghold you need to open (random spawn), or you can continue your looting ways that you will be used to in Season 2 of DMZ or you can try to get yourself a Skeleton Key.

The Skeleton Key however, can be just as difficult to obtain as you need to find the items – Cassette Recorder, Vintage Wine and Hard Drive in order to Barter for this item in the new Bartering System in Buy Stations.

What Loadout to Use Against the Al Mazrah Boss

The Commander is ready and willing to fight anyone that enters his domain of the Stronghold. For that reason, players need to be more than prepared to take this Boss on. His Loadout is a semi-automatic Dragon Breath Shotgun which has decent range on it and will leave you badly burnt. He is also rocking a Riot Shield to cover any shots you may try to pummel into his back. When thinking about his Loadout, we recommend specific Weapons and Equipment to take this Boss down. Firstly, we recommend using an Assault Rifle and opting for Armor-Piercing Bullets on any Insured Weapons you may have. Next, use the Drill Charge as this will work wonders against the Riot Shield. A Thermite can work although it does not pack a punch like the Drill Charge does.

For Tactical Equipment, we highly recommend Stims in case things get too hairy in there. It does not hurt to take in Self Revives either so that you stand a longer chance in the fight. This can help out massively, regardless of if you are playing Solo or in a Squad. Of course, the Commander is easier to take out in a Squad as he will only focus on you one at a time. We recommend putting an Optic on your Assault Rifle so you can hit the Commander at a safe distance, you do not want to be within 5 metres of his Shotgun as it can take you down incredibly fast. Finally for your Loadout, make sure you head in with an Armored Vest and enough Plates so you can Replate if necessary. Going in “naked” is a terrible idea for this Boss.

How to Kill Pyro Commander

When you enter the Stronghold you will notice its environment is narrow and there are not many options for cover. The room in which you will meet the Commander has multiple Explosive Barrels and a Trophy System. You should immediately take out the Trophy System so you can use your Equipment on the Commander. Make sure that you do not go in guns blazing as you could accidently kill yourself and your Squad by shooting the Explosive Barrels.

With the Trophy System taken out, use your Drill Charge or Thermite against the Commander. If you are with a Squad, designate someone to distract the Boss and use the natural cover of the room, from chairs to stairwells. Be sure however to not run in front of the Barrels as he could use these to take you out. You should shoot the Barrels when the Commander is close to them to deal environmental damage. Treat this Boss as if it was a Juggernaut, do not get too close and you will not get punished. This beast takes multiple Magazines to take out so whenever you can, choose your life over a quick kill for the Commander.
