How to Install ElvUI in World of Warcraft Dragonflight

ElvUI is a full replacement mod for World of Warcraft’s vanilla user interface. It’s designed to be a modular system, allowing you to customize the shapes and placements of your UI elements, as well as utilize lots of different community-made plugins.

The precise way you install ElvUI depends on whether you want to do a fully-manual installation, or don’t mind using its developer’s custom client. If you’re playing on a PC, the client is the faster, easier option, but if you’re playing on a Mac, then a manual installation is required.

Manual Installation

To manually install ElvUI, you’ll need to download the latest build from the developer, Tukui’s, website. The latest release is right on the front page, you can’t miss it. Download the zip folder from the website, and extract its contents to your World of Warcraft folder. It’ll be under _retail_ or _classic_ depending on the version of the game you’re running, followed by Interface and AddOns.

Client Installation

If you’d like to take some of the guesswork out, you can download the Tukui client from their website and have it handle the extraction and installation. Just extract the client installer anywhere from the downloaded zip file, then run it, though you will need a Tukui account to use it. Once it’s up and running, click Browse to find your World of Warcraft folder, then click Install ElvUI.

Running the Installer

Either way you add the files, the next time you run World of Warcraft, the ElvUI installer will activate automatically in-game. Just follow the prompts and let the installer do its work. It needs to add the following elements:

  • CVars
  • Chat
  • Profile
  • Theme
  • UI Scale
  • Layouts
  • Auras

While these elements can be skipped during the installation process, it’s best to just let them all happen, lest you end up with a buggy or fragmented instance of the UI. Once the installer is finished, it’ll close, and your game will have ElvUI set up and ready to go!

If you’re having any trouble or want to check out community plugins, just visit the official Tukui Discord server to talk to admins and other users. They’ll help you get the best UI experience possible.
