How to Get the Shotgun in Amnesia: The Bunker

Shawty my Shotty

Ever wondered where that pesky Shotgun is when you keep picking up Shotgun Ammo through your exploration of the map? A weapon with multi-functional use, the Shotgun will be your savior inside The Bunker. But how do you obtain such a tool? Well, there are multiple ways to get the Shotgun in Amnesia: The Bunker. Once you find it, be sure to utilize it on all the things you wouldn’t think to use it for. You know, on doors instead of the actual threat in the game – the Beast. Whether you want your bullets to pack a real punch or to get into areas as a last resort, the Shotgun is the one for you. This is Vincent’s guide on how to get the Shotgun in Amnesia: The Bunker.

The Shotgun is another method to opening wooden doors that are locked from the other side. Very often, cinder blocks are not available for players to use. Therefore, instead of always using a Frag Grenade (which are very useful in the ending), you can use Shotgun bullets. Aiming anywhere at the door and shooting a single shot will take the door down. If the Beast is nearby, make sure that you have an exit route planned so that you are not caught.

Where to Find the Shotgun in Amnesia: The Bunker

The Shotgun can be found in two specific spots in the game. In all honestly I did not clock this weapon standing upright in the Locker as I am so used to a Shotgun being on full display, perfectly framed in a wall. However, the Shotgun can be found inside Fortin’s Locker. To open it however, you require his Dog Tag and code. Luckily the route to doing so is actually simpler than obtaining other Dog Tags. The area you need to head to is the Soldier Quarters. As soon as you enter the corridor you need to enter the Barracks (A) on your left side. To get inside, circle around to the left, passing the Communications Door. Once inside, head to the back of the room and turn right. You will see a door with a black and white poster next to it.

Head inside and follow the path around. Please note that there is a booby-trap towards the end of this corridor. All you need to do is a running jump over it. Of course, if you have the Bolt Cutters, the booby-trap can be clipped away. As you round the corner you will see a corpse with Rats on it. You need to clear the Rats as Fortin’s Dog Tag is on the ground here. To clear Rats, the best options to limit both noise, damage and alerting the Beast to your location are Flares, Meat and Sticks (Lighter required). Other methods are Frag Grenades, Gas Grenades (requires Gas Mask) or the Revolver. Once you clear the Rats, move in to get Fortin’s Dog Tag.

With Fortin’s Dog Tag in hand, go all the way back to the Mission Storage, close to Prison and Soldier Quarters to use Fortin’s code located on the back of the Dog Tag to get into his locker. Inside you will find the Shotgun. Another way of getting the Shotgun is by defeating Beaufoy down in the Roman Tunnels, but that is a guide for another day.
