How to Get OP at the Very Start of Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty

With careful strategy, you can be OP in no time.

When playing Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty you will definitely feel that Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice vibe but upgraded. For me, it has additional realistic mechanics that bring the game to a whole new level and it’s no wonder that the game is getting so much attention.

The game is pretty challenging and will require you to carefully plan out your moves as well as to have fast fingers and great reflexes. However, there are ways you can make it easier on yourself. Follow our guide and see how you can become really strong really quickly and make enemies fear you instead of it being the other way around.

Getting OP Early on in Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty

In short, if you want to get OP really early in the game you would have to be attentive and not miss any loot that comes your way. Some great chests and not-so-powerful enemies that give great drops can be missed if you rush through the game, so our advice is to farm everything you can before you face the inevitable bosses.

Further, you will need to master the fighting as soon as possible in order to reach that full OP potential that the game offers in the early stages. But without further ado, here’s the breakdown.

Tutorial Phase

As strange as it sounds, the tutorial area where you learn your first moves in the game will have more than a couple of hidden gems that you can use to help yourself out in the upcoming quests. After you have mastered the basic fighting techniques in the burning village and killed off those soldiers in yellow uniforms, explore the houses around you.

One house will have a big tree that is on fire next to it with some hanged soldiers swinging from its branches. Break the boxes that are blocking the entrance of the house and take the loot that’s inside (an armor piece).

Now look for a burning path between two trees that are also on fire. Don’t be afraid of going through that path as you won’t take much damage (less than 100hp) and you will find yourself in a new area with a powerful tiger that is eating some dead soldiers. Avoid the tiger by avoiding its range and moving to the far right part of the map.

Climb on the lowered roof on the other side of the house and go to the main roof. Look around and you will see a couple of shining cookies which are basically more loot. Pick them up and go back to the same roof and look for a big opening. Drop down the hole in the roof and loot everything you find in the room (importantly pants with great stats).

If you want to get everything you possibly can in this phase, then attack the tiger and kill it. Let me warn you, it won’t be easy, but if you’re in it for the maximum loot you probably don’t mind dying a couple of times before you’re successful. Small tip: while still on the roof, you can use your stealth attack to jump on the tiger’s back and do some heavy damage before the fight between you two even starts.

Additionally, look for any common soldiers in your surroundings and kill them for loot, gold, and XP. Also, use the Marking Flag posts you find to upgrade your Fortitude Rank. The Fortitude Rank regulates the minimum Morale you can have in an area and high morale helps you keep a big damage output.

Preparing Your Character

Raise the Battle flag at the Battle flag post you find and rest there to replenish your potion count. You will be finding these across the world so make sure you don’t miss out on any.

By now, you have probably gathered some Qi Flake and Qi Fragments. Consume them to be able to level up. After that, you can pick a spell, but keep in mind that different bosses will have different resistances, so it’s maybe smart to invest in those spells that buff you. One option for the early game is to pick a spell like the Enhanced Defense which allows you to take less damage.

One of the most important things that will help you with all bosses is a good understanding of the block and deflect mechanisms (you can practice this on those common weak soldiers before you go in to fight the big guys). Since successful deflect needs to be timed at the right moment, try holding the block at the same time you’re trying to time your deflect. That way, if you miss the deflect, you have a chance of at least lessening some of the damage coming your way.

Lastly, always keep your eye on the “Equipment Weight” section in your character’s overview. You don’t want to carry too much burden if you want your movement and attacks to be swift so keep the weight you’re carrying always in balance (as long as the % number is green you’re good).

Fighting the Early Bosses

The basic strategy for fighting the bosses in Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty is to understand their patterns and really capitalize on those deflects. We must emphasize that getting good with deflect timing is one skill that will help you immensely throughout the whole game and especially early on, as these bosses are tougher than most games’ bosses. Deflects can block even some of the strongest boss attacks and that gives them value in the first place.

Always give yourself the first minute or two in the boss fight to learn their patterns of attacking and study the openings you can exploit. If a boss, like the first one called Zhang Liang, has transformations that introduce a new set of skills for him, do this again. Skipping to get to know the boss you fighting puts you at great risk since many bosses in Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty will have no problem twoshoting you with their powerful moves.

Remember to constantly keep your eyes on the spirited charge of your hero. Once it’s full, use it to strike the bosses with your heavy attacks and maximize your damage.

Companions and Weapon Upgrading

Throughout the story of Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty you will meet companions or allies that will follow you in battle. You will be able to command them in battle which is a great mechanic that you can exploit in your favor (especially in boss fights). They can distract bosses and taunt them to give you an opportunity to flank them and safely dash out your most powerful attacks.

Keep in mind that in one of your first missions you will get a “free” companion called Zhao Yun, but later on, you will only be able to summon them by spending one Tiger Seal per companion (you can have two max). You can loot these from enemies, chests, and other players. To summon them all you need to do is interact with your Battle Flag and select whom you want.

Furthermore, pretty early on in your adventure, you’re going to meet a blacksmith that will sell and upgrade weapons. This is where you will enjoy all the benefits of looting everything and everyone for the first time.

You will start the game with the Ring Pommel Sabre but there is a distinct possibility to find an upgraded version of it in the first couple of levels. If not, our advice would be to upgrade it with the blacksmith. Another recommendation we can give you for an early weapon is the White Wooden Cudgel. This weapon can too drop in the early levels and can be bought for about 10,000 gold from the same blacksmith.
