Everybody knows that Formula 1 requires far more skill and precision than other racing events. In large part because the sport features some of the fastest cars in the world.
While cutting edge technology allows for more aerodynamically sound vehicles that can safely and swiftly maneuver around sharp corners. It’s still a sport that requires an incredible amount of technical ability, which is why getting off to a good start is so important.
In this guide, we’re going to look at how to get good starts in F1 22.
How to Get Good Starts in F1 22
Unfortunately, there aren’t any buttons you can press or controls you can learn to get off to a better start than others. That being said, there are a few strategies you can implement to give yourself a better chance.
Here are the three best things you can do to get off to a good start in F1 22.
1. Study Race Tracks
This one might sound like common sense (and boring) but nevertheless important. The truth is that the length and structure of every circuit in F1 22 is completely different. So, just because you’ve mastered one track doesn’t mean that you can apply the same maneuvers to another.
Studying every nook and cranny for each race track can provide you with even the slightest advantage, which could be the difference between winning and losing an event. Understanding how your car performs on a certain track (and under certain conditions) will save you a lot of time and help you get off to a good start at the beginning of a race.

2. Maintain RPM
Another sure fire way to get off to a good start in F1 22 is to get your RPM (Revolutions Per Minute) up to a solid figure, and maintain it. This means having the same throttle pressure at the starting line as you do throughout the race. Although, you’ll want to gradually build up your revs because if you do it too soon then you risk spinning out at the start of the race.
In order to do this effectively, you’ll want to:
- Press and hold A (for Xbox) or X (for PlayStation) at the start of the race.
- Then, to get your RPM up, hold down on RT (for Xbox or PlayStation), while still pressing A (or X).
It’s also important to quickly shift gears immediately after you start the race and gradually increase the pressure. Then move up into third gear with your throttle pressure at 100% and press the ERS button. Be sure to maintain your RPM throughout the race, and be aware of all your turns. Which is where our first tip comes into play.
3. Position Yourself Well & Focus on the First Corner
Lastly, it’s absolutely vital that you position yourself well and nail the first corner to get off to a good start in F1 22. Even though the races are long and things can change, how you position yourself after the first corner could be the deciding factor between you winning or losing a race.
This is also an incredibly important step because if you get too aggressive and make a mistake, it could cause an accident and completely remove you from the race. To get past the first corner in a good position you’ll want to place your car as close to the inside of the track as possible and focus on braking as you approach the turn.
Being on the inside of the track means that you can brake whenever you want because there will be nobody in front of you. However, if you’re in the middle or on the far side, then you will need to be more vigilant of the cars in front of you and slow down first before hitting the turn.
That’s everything you need to know about how to get good starts in F1 22. In the meantime, be sure to check out some of our other F1 22 content here at Gamer Journalist. Like how to change the race length in F1 22 or the top F1 22 driver ratings.
