How to Get Pitcher Seed by Hatching Sniffer Eggs

To begin your excursion into the land of archelogy and discovering extinct species, you will need to obtain some Sniffers. These are just one of the new animals added into Minecraft 1.20 and offer a highly unique mechanic that makes your digging life a whole lot easier. These guys act like sniffer dogs, but with a nose that pinpoints plant species, you will still find yourself doing a lot of digging for ores, materials and new areas to explore. The Sniffer only hatch from their egg which can be a hard find for those just getting started in the new update. You can only find these unique colored eggs inside the Ocean Ruins and through digging specific blocks. The blocks you need are Suspicious Blocks, which have a similar look to gravel and sand.

The Sniffer Eggs should fall from the Blocks after turning them to dust, which can simply be done with your fists alone. However, its drop is not guaranteed. Therefore, you may find that you leave with no Eggs or on other occasions, a good bundle of Sniffer Eggs to hatch. You can place the Sniffer Egg down where it will transform into a giant Block to represent the size of the Sniffer Egg. Whilst the hatching period takes a while you do not need to worry about the safety of the Sniffer as nothing bad can happen to the Eggs if left alone. Just be sure to remember where you placed them for hatching.

Once the Sniffer(s) has hatched, they will through time, start the sniffing and digging process when on grassy biomes. The outcome is obtaining mysterious extinct plants which are brand new to the 1.20 update. One of these is the Pitcher Seed which you will need to grow.

How to Grow Pitcher Plant

Now that you have the Pitcher Seed, which appears like a Pod, you need to begin the growing phase. These appear in multiple stages of life before it grows to its full potential. The best Blocks to grow these on are Farmland Blocks. Place the Seed (Pod) down into the Farmland Block (by water and after using the hoe on the soil), you can go ahead and use Bone Meal if you have it. You will need to use Bone Meal 4 times total until it is fully grown. Then you can hit it with your fist and pick up the fully grown Pitcher Plant to place it wherever you want, or to craft Cyan Dye via the Crafting Station.

The Pitcher Plant also offers a unique mechanic in which you can get water from it by using a fluid container. So if you are looking to add decorative flowers with a unique feature in your home, or sick of creating endless water outside of your base, the Pitcher Plant may be the new plant for you.
