How to Get A First Touch in Rocket League

Getting a First Touch is easier than it looks.

Rocket League can sometimes seem like a pretty daunting game. There are so many kinds of acrobatic moves used for shooting, moving the ball down the field, or blocking a goal from happening. One thing that the game always employs between scoring goals is laying the ball in the middle of the field and having opposing teams rush to it.

This part of the game becomes a test of skill as each team rushes the ball in hopes of pitching the ball down their opponents’ side of the field or even getting an easy goal. A rewarding part about getting to the ball sooner than your enemy in instances like this is the “First Touch”. With it frequently being featured in many ongoing events it can be a pretty important thing to achieve when prizes are on the line. Today we’ll explain how to get a First Touch in Rocket League.

How to Get A First Touch in Rocket League

First Touch Rocket League

Getting a First Touch can be an easy-to-achieve part of each Duel within Rocket League, especially for veteran players. For new ones, there are a few things you’re going to need to master such as the speed-boosting and maneuverability of your car. Luckily, all of this is pretty easy to learn shortly after playing a few matches.

Placement

What you’ll want to do in order to have the best chance of getting a First Touch is to have your strategy in place depending on where you spawn when the ball drops. At the beginning of each match and after every goal, both teams’ players will spawn on some area of their side of the field.

A timer of 3 seconds will begin to count down and once the horn goes off players are allowed to then rush the ball. It’s a best practice to figure out if getting a First Touch is an option depending on where you spawn. Sometimes it’s easiest to achieve if you’re closer to the ball or more in line with it as you won’t have to sacrifice speed by swerving.

Boosting

One specific item that is going to help you the most during these rushes is your speed boost and the boost nodes that can be picked up along your route. That’s why, if you’re running a straight line with a boost node ahead of you, you have a better chance of getting a First Touch than if you had to swerve to reach one.

Rushing

Either way, you’re going to want to hold that boost button down the entire time so that you have a better chance of reaching the ball quickest. Another great tactic is to flip your car forward. This gives your car faster momentum, thus making you the best contender for a First touch.

At the end of the day, all you have to do is be the first person to touch the ball during that goal period to achieve a First Touch. There are some instances where your enemy won’t even pursue the ball, making it even easier to get those extra points.

Hopefully, this breakdown helped show you just how easy it can be to get a First Touch. These steps will make you more apt to get one more often than not.
