The Desolation Update is now live in No Man’s Sky, and one new addition to the game is Derelict Freighters. You can scavenge these Freighters by yourself or with others to acquire some loot. In this guide, we will show you how to find Derelict Freighters in No Man’s Sky.
How to find Derelict Freighters in No Man’s Sky
To start, you will want to find a Scrap Dealer, a shopkeeper found at the space station. From the Scrap Dealer, you can acquire coordinates for the Derelict Freighters for a price. From our playthrough, it requires 5,000,000 units to obtain the coordinates. The price supposedly changes from one day to the next.
The Scrap Dealer will give you an Emergency Broadcast Receiver, a single-use receiver that scans for distress signals on freighter frequencies. Derelict or abandoned freighters often contain high-value salvage. You can select the Receiver and use Tune Signal to scan for the location, but you should be inside your ship first.
You can essentially force a random event to find the Derelict Freighter by activating the Pulse Drive. While doing this, the Receiver scans the frequencies and leads you to the Derelict Freighter. There are multiple landing pads on the Freighter, meaning this is can be a multiplayer encounter.
You will encounter a ton of Nanites, Units, and other salvage. Look out for defensive turrets, infestations, and other hostile enemies. Theoretically, there is a Derelict Freighter in all the star systems, so you should be able to encounter one randomly. That’s all you need to know for how to find Derelict Freighters in No Man’s Sky.
