How to Escape The End in Escape the Backrooms

Time for some ̶p̶e̶a̶c̶e̶ and (extreme) quiet.

Fresh from the headache that is Run for your life in Escape the Backrooms, you find yourself finally in what appears to be a library, finally somewhere to relax. Or so you may think. In this level, The End, you are stuck in a room with a crawling, spindly creature that parades between the isles, looking for any intruder. Thankfully, the monster cannot see, but its hearing is doubly vigilant. Here is how to escape The End in Escape the Backrooms.

How to Avoid the Black Entity in The End

The black entity skulks around the room and in between isles, keeping an ear out for any noise. To prevent this creature from hunting you down, you must remain quiet. Any sprinting will not be tolerated, so you must resist the temptation.

You can walk freely if the creature is on the other half of the room, but if it is lurking nearby, you’d better drop to a crouch. The entity may still catch you if it bumps into you, so if it is fast approaching, drop to a crouch and sneak right out of its way.

To be on the safer side, you can even retreat to one of the corners of the room and crouch, you will be virtually untouchable there as the creature doesn’t stray to the extremities of the room.

How to Beat The End

Ahead of you will lay a monitor. If turned on, by simply approaching it, it will reveal the number ’24’. This alludes to the 24 VHS tapes hidden around the level on the shelves. To save time and possibly your life, you don’t need to go up to the monitor at all, and you can instantly start by collecting the tapes and not bothering with the monitor until you need it at the end of the level. Doing this will save you time and will prevent you from having to go near the creature when the game starts.

So, the aim of this level is to collect all 24 VHS tapes, which can be done by going up to a tape on a shelf and looking at it directly, with no buttons required. You may need to crouch to have access to the ones on the bottom shelves.

Due to the entity’s behavior, I would advise you to start on the shelves in the middle, to get the most difficult ones out of the way first. At the start of the game, see whether the entity goes to the right side or the left side first, and go towards the other side. This allows you to walk, potentially scooping up half a dozen tapes within a few seconds whilst the entity is busy elsewhere.

Be vigilant, for the creature and for the tapes. The last thing you want to be missing is one and having to scout out the whole room again for it. This level is difficult due to the entity quickly walking around and sometimes bumping into you, ending your run.

Once you have all the VHS tapes from the middle, circle the outside and grab the tapes on the peripherals of the room.

Once you are convinced to have all the tapes, go back to the monitor. Whether you turned it on or not during the game doesn’t matter. Once you are there and have collected all the tapes, the creature will move out of the room. Success!

A short video will play about the shared subconscious, which you must watch before a portal opens up, allowing you access out of The End, where your final challenge awaits.
