10 years after the 3rd mainline installment, Pikmin 4 has finally arrived. The game allows you to create you character, as you crash land once again on the Planet of the Pikmin. Once you send out a distress signal to the Rescue Corps, they too crash land on the planet, and assist you in looking for ways to get back home. Along with features that have been mainstays in the series, Pikmin 4 further develops its gameplay previous iterations. One of the most interesting additions to the game is the help of the loveable and cuddly Rescue Pup named Oatchi. A space dog that will help you on his journey across the Earth-like planet. And just like your character, Oatchi can be upgraded with a wide variety of abilities. So let’s rescue some friends and figure out how to earn Pup Drive Points in Pikmin 4.
How to Earn Pup Drive Points in Pikmin 4
Pup Drive Points can be earned by rescuing castaways during your explorations. When you end your day, you’ll receive a certain amount of points depending on how many castaways you helped. These points can then be used to upgrade Oatchi by talking to the Rescue Corp leader Shepard, further increasing his abilities, and even evolving them as you progress further in the game. However, there are a few upgrades you can unlock for Oatchi that requires a different Rescue Corp member.

In order to unlock the ability to upgrade your suit and Oatchi’s collar, you’ll need to save the Rescue Corps Material Engineer Russ. This is something that players can’t miss, as Russ if the first castaway you’ll need to rescue when starting the game. While his main upgrades are for your suit, there are a few that can be unlocked for Oatchi by using materials you collect. And since you can swap between your created character and Oatchi when you get separated, having these extra upgrades really go a long way. Just make sure you feed him every now and then, he’s a good boy.
