If you saw the Direct you can tell they are still keeping secrets from us. While not exactly a Pikmin, there seems to be a new creature we can control and help us on our way. Business Director Shinya Takahashi only states it is a strange dog-like creature and to look out for more news on it later. They don’t even give us a name for it yet!

On top of that, the most exciting part might be the fact you can ride on the dog creatures back with your Pikmin… on the water!! That’s right! Finally, we have a way to bypass the water that is so deadly to the Pikmin without having to find long ways around! This could become the very best gameplay developing feature for Pimin 4 indeed.

Additionally, we do seem to get a brand new Pikmin type as well, the Ice Pikmin. While traveling on the water will no doubt be very helpful from the dog creature, the Ice Pikmin help with water too! It seems you can throw a certain amount of Ice Pikmin into the water at once and it will freeze the whole water area! If this is a limited or timed ability we do not know for certain yet. On top of that the Ice Pikmin can also freeze enemies and break them into smaller easier pieces to carry.

Finally, as far as we know at the moment, you have your classic first 3 colors of Pikmin. Red, Blue, and Yellow Pikmin all once again make their return. There is no certainty if these are all of the Pikmin, no others were shown in the direct trailer, but we can be sure with 5 more months to go from Pikmin 4’s release on July 21st, 2023, they have much more to show us!
