As a wise man once said, blocking off doors using advanced technology like forcefields looks really cool, but it’s generally more efficient to just use a door. The reason for this is that, should whatever’s powering your forcefield suddenly break, it’s worthless. If High on Life is any indication, this is a worryingly easy and common occurrence. Here’s how to disable yellow electrical boxes in High on Life.
How to Disable Yellow Electrical Boxes in High on Life
At multiple points throughout High on Life, you may encounter a door, forcefield, or other nondescript pieces of alien machinery blocking your progression or preventing you from finding secrets. If you poke around nearby, you’ll likely find a large, yellow electrical box supplying power to these devices. If the box can be disabled, then whatever it’s feeding power to will naturally shut down. So, how do you do that?

Unfortunately, you can’t disable the boxes and their connected machinery until around midway through the game’s story campaign. When you’re pursuing the bounty for the Skrendel Bros. at Skrendel Labs on Zephyr Paradise, you’ll eventually come across a heavily-modified Gatlian named Creature. No, I don’t know if that’s his real name or not.
Use Creature to Disable Electrical Boxes
Creature has the ability to launch his own children in an arc, kind of like a living grenade launcher. To disable a yellow electrical box, all you need to do is launch one of Creature’s kids at the access port, and the little guy will crawl right in and tear it apart. It’ll also die right after, but Creature makes so many kids on a regular basis, it doesn’t really bother him anymore.
In the event that the electrical box is behind the obstruction it’s powering or otherwise out of your direct reach, don’t worry. Creature’s kids are smarter than they look. If you shoot them near the electrical box, or near a small passageway leading to the box like a pipe, they’ll automatically make their way through to the electrical box to disable it. The only time they won’t do this is if there’s something else in their way like a door or a wall, and indeed, there are several puzzles that follow this format. If Creature’s kids aren’t making a beeline for the box, check the surrounding area to ensure there’s nothing in their way.
