Progression in a title like God of War Ragnarök, and specially in adventure games, is often limited by the developers. This will encourage what we know as backtracking. For some it may be annoying, for other is something we look forward to. Picture investing several hours to get a certain item or ability. Once unlocked, you recall a locked area at the very beginning of the game. You return, and you encounter a huge reward. Furthermore, you encounter a very unforgiving boss fight (like the Valkyrie close to Kratos and Atreus’ home). This is the way God of War and many other games handle progression, and I love it. One of the ways of limiting progression momentarily in God of War is through vines that seem to be invulnerable. Here is how to destroy all vines in God of War Ragnarök.
Destroy all Vines in God of War Ragnarök
In God of War (2018), the game used two instances to lock progression for the player. The World Tree Sap and the Black Vines. The World Tree Sap needed shock arrows in order to shoot the red orbs. They will cause a chain reaction that clears the path beyond. In the case of Black Vines, Kratos needs the Blades of Chaos. They will burn the vines, and you’ll collect chests and collectables, as well as clearing some paths as well.
How to Destroy Red Heavy Vines
In God of War Ragnarök, you will be able to use your Leviathan Axe and your Blades of Chaos to destroy several small vines. However, at one point of the story, you will encounter huge red vines that the developers call Heavy Vines. You can’t destroy them like the others. In fact, in order to destroy these vines, you need to unlock the Sigil Arrows. I will leave the circumstances of this unlock spoiler free, just follow the story. These arrows will assist you in battles, puzzles and, in this instance, to clear environmental blockages, like the Heavy Vines.
You will need to shoot the arrows toward the vines, which will create a large circle, which you can hit with your Blades of Chaos to power up their flames and burn the Heavy Vines. Sometimes you will need to use several arrows in order to reach otherwise unreachable vines.
Go ahead and play through God of War Ragnarök’s story and make sure to unlock the Sigil Arrows, travel back to those Heavy Vines and destroy them. You will find secret areas, will progress forward in the story, or even be rewarded generously.
