Defeating Ranrok Explained

In the last quest called The Final Repository, you will first go into a cave and fight your way to reach the repository. You will encounter various enemies here but nothing too challenging until the final boss. Once you meet Ranrok a multi-stage fight will begin.

Preparation for the Fight

Before going in for the last quest it’s a good idea to stack up on health potions. We would advise you to carry at least 15 health potions with you, just to be safe. If your character build allows for a lot of buffing potions make sure to carry those with you as well, but you can defeat Ranrok even without using them. One powering-up potion that we would say can make this fight much easier is the Maxima potion which will boost your spell damage.

During the fight, Ranrok will be vulnerable only when you take out his colorful protecting orbs, and the best way to do this is by having at least one control, one force, and one damage spell in your spell diamond. This will ensure that you can rid Ranrok of his protective orbs and deal direct damage to him.

If you are one of the players who has been investing in the Spell Knowledge Core talent, this is one of the situations where that will pay off big time. By using those extra spell slots and switching your spell diamonds, you can make sure to always use the weakest spells to take down Ranrok’s orbs while you save the stronger ones for direct attacks on him. The time window for attacking him isn’t long and that’s why this is vital.

In case you don’t have more spell diamonds available, don’t worry. Fight against Ranrok is still winnable, it would just take more time and some more default attacks than special spells.

Guide for Combating Ranrok

When the combat begins, for the majority of the time you will need to move around and dodge Ranrok’s numerous attacks. One of the first things you will probably notice is his big health bar and two HP thresholds on it, which once met, will trigger his reaction and take the fight to the next level making it more difficult.

Damaging Ranrok enough to trigger a new phase in the fight will mean that you will change the surroundings in which you are fighting, he will have extra orbs that need to be destroyed before he can be attacked and he will unleash some new and deadlier attacks.

Make sure to focus and attack his orbs with corresponding spells. If you attack a red orb with a control (purple) spell you will waste a CD and the orb will still stand. It is also important not to strategize too much and save some of the strongest spells for direct attacks. Whenever his orbs appear, attack them with whichever corresponding spell you have available to open him up for direct attacks as soon as possible.

One of his most deadly attacks is releasing an all-out wave of energy that doesn’t leave much room for dodging. As soon as you notice Ranrok clutching his wings, start running away from him in hopes that the wave won’t catch you. Oftentimes, you will get hit by this but don’t despair, it is a really hard spell to dodge. Anyway, this is where those health potions we mentioned come in.

The last phase of the fight will make Ranrok crawl on the ground and attack you from closer range. When you defeat him in this phase, he will be 100% beaten and the final cutscenes will commence.
