Any dollar store spellcaster can run around flailing their wand and shooting sparks at anyone, but that doesn’t help much when they don’t know how to not get knocked out. After all, knowing how to not get hurt in a fight is just as important as fighting yourself, if not moreso. To help hammer that lesson home, here’s how to complete Professor Hecat’s Assignment 2 in Hogwarts Legacy.
How to Complete Professor Hecat’s Assignment 2 – Hogwarts Legacy Guide
As a reminder, Professor Hecat is your Defence Against the Dark Arts teacher, teaching the students of Hogwarts the best ways to defend themselves against malicious wizards and plain ol’ jerks. After you complete her first assignment, she teaches you the Fire-Making Charm, Incendio, but if you’re looking for more practical combat experience, she’s got some more homework for you.

For Professor Hecat’s second assignment, she wants you to practice dodging enemy attacks, as well as casting Incendio. Unlike some of the other quests in this game, you won’t get a waypoint on your map for this one, but that’s just because you can complete it pretty much anywhere you can find a fight.
Practicing Combat Tactics
Head out into the open world and go looking for trouble. You can pick a fight with any enemy, be they human or beast, though another spellcaster like a Poacher Tracker may be a bit easier to deal with.
Once you’re in a fight, wait for the enemy to take a swing at you, then press the indicated button to perform a dodge roll. Remember that you can only perform a dodge roll right before an enemy attack, so keep your eyes peeled for that prompt. Once you’ve successfully performed 10 of those, then you just need to cast Incendio 5 times in a fight. For either of these goals, in the event you get knocked out or accidentally defeat your enemy, you can just go fight someone else. This doesn’t all have to happen in a single fight.
Once you’ve checked off both the dodge rolls and Incendios, return to Professor Hecat to report your progress. As a reward, she’ll teach you the motion for the Disarming Charm Expelliarmus, the spell that is as useful as it is fun to say (which is to say, very!).
