How to Clear Reaver of the South in Assassin's Creed Valhalla

How to Clear Reaver of the South in Assassin’s Creed Valhalla

Out of curiosity, I looked up what “reaver” actually means. According to Merriam-Webster, it is one who robs and/or pillages people and places. There was certainly no shortage of pillaging going on back in Viking times, so I guess it was a much more widely used term. Well, if they’re gonna reave, you’re gonna reap. Here’s how to clear “Reaver of the South” in Assassin’s Creed Valhalla.

As a part of the Suthsexe storyline, wherein you pledge your allegiance to Suthsexe, you’ll be tasked with preparing for an attack on Portcestre. To make that happen, you’ll need to do away with Fulke’s three scouts. These scouts will appear on your map, and you can deal with them in any order you choose, though it would be in your best interest to do so as quietly as possible.

Once the scouts have been killed and you report back to Basim and Guthrum, you’ll learn that Fulke is aware of your presence and is sending a troop of Saxons to turn you into mush. This is a loud encounter; no need to be subtle, just try to kill as many enemies as you can to fill up the meter on the top left of the screen.

When the Saxons retreat, it’ll be between you and Fulke’s Champion. This is the real meat and potatoes of this quest; Fulke’s Champion is a tough cookie, so you don’t want to approach this half-heartedly. Here’s a few things to keep in mind:

  • Fulke’s Champion is packing dual greatswords. That means he swings fairly slowly, but he hits like a truck. He’ll usually come at you with five to six swings, so get ready for some rapid-fire dodging or parrying.
  • The best time to attack him is right after he swings both swords at once, as he’ll leave himself wide open. The best place to attack him is his vulnerable feet, so pepper him with arrows.
  • If you’re in dire straits, there are resources nearby you can grab to heal. Just make sure to put some distance between yourself and Fulke’s Champion before you try that, or he’ll punish you for it.

Once you beat him down, you can either kill him or send him off with a warning for Fulke. Either’s fine, it won’t affect the story, and he won’t be messing with you again either way.
