Assassin’s Creed Valhalla: How to Complete An Honorable Death

In various northern European mythologies, the “Wild Hunt” is a staple event where the boundaries between this plane of existence and the next weaken, allowing through a horde of ravenous, spectral hunters led by Odin himself. In Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, the Oskoreia Festival is held to appease the hunters, and that event just happens to be happening in-game right now, accompanied by several new quests. Here’s how to complete An Honorable Death in Assassin’s Creed Valhalla.

A quick heads up, you’ll need to complete the festival quest Homeward before you can tackle An Honorable Death. To get things rolling, visit the large ship situated in the middle of the festival grounds. Inscribed upon the ship are the names of various people who have passed, but strangely, one of the names has no accompanying description: Kalf. Whoever he is, Kalf can’t be properly honored if we don’t know how he died, and that’s a no-no for this festival, so it’s up to Eivor to figure out what happened.

Assassin’s Creed Valhalla: How to Complete An Honorable Death

Here’s how to complete An Honorable Death in Assassin’s Creed Valhalla:

  1. Use Odin’s Sight to trace the charcoal marks to the waypoint
  2. Examine the dead man, then follow the pillar of smoke to a campfire
  3. Find and examine the four highlighted spots with Odin’s Sight
  4. Return to the ship and write Kalf’s story

Your first clue that something is wrong here is that Kalf’s name is merely painted onto the ship with charcoal, as opposed to being carved right into the wood like the other names. If you examine the ground with Odin’s Sight, you’ll see splotches of this charcoal on the ground. Follow the marks until you reach the waypoint on your navbar to discover a dead man under a bridge.

Nearby, you should see smoke rising out of a campfire located at Ragnarasson Lookout. Make your way to the campfire and interact with it to look beyond the Veil. Look around with Odin’s Sight to find four important objects highlighted in green. Examine each of these objects to piece together what happened to Kalf. The objects are located at the lookout near the fire, on one shore of the river, one the opposite shore of the river, and in the remains of a ship underwater.

Once you’ve got the full story, return to the real world and the big ship at the festival. Eivor will carve Kalf’s name properly, along with the tale of his efforts to warn a village of incoming danger.
