How to Catch Stonjourner in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet

Go all-out defence with Stonjourner

Pokémon Scarlet and Violet exclusives such as Larvitar and Stonjourner are a few of the differences that can be found in version Scarlet. Stonjourner is a great replacement to Onyx and Steelix who are not present in this Pokémon instalment. With high defensive stats, Stonjourner could be the tank Ground-Type Pokémon which you decide to build your team around. This guide will show you where to find Stonjourner and tips for how to catch Stonjourner in Pokémon Scarlet.

Where to Find Stonjourner in Pokémon Scarlet

Stonjourner lives solely in the Asado Desert. To find Stonjourner quickly, exit out of the Cascarrafa city in the Western region of Paldea. Use the North exit of Cascarrafa to go into the Asado Desert. Appearing at Levels 20-25.

As Stonjourner is a relatively easy find as they are only located in the Asado Desert, players should have no trouble running into one. However, they are not a common spawning Pokémon, therefore players will need to repeatedly check the Desert biome for Stonjourner’s appearance. We recommend fast travelling to the North exit of Cascarrafa if Stonjourner does not appear and retrying the area we have circled below for the specific Stonjourner location in the Asado Desert.

How to Catch Stonjourner

Stonjourner is a Ground-Type Pokémon therefore they are weak against Fighting, Ground, Ice, Grass, Water and Steel-Types. Stonjourner is a highly defensive Pokémon with defence base stats of 135. Because of this, it is recommended that you pick Pokémon that will do enough damage to Stonjourner and get the HP bar into red so that you can try to capture it. We do not recommend using a Water-Type Pokémon as this will likely KO the Stonjourner in one hit. Therefore, it is best to use Pokémon such as Larvitar (who is a Scarlet exclusive Pokémon) or a Freeze or Bug-Type Pokémon which can halt the Stonjourner’s attacks.

Because of its high defence, Stonjourner is a very tough Pokémon to catch, regardless of its Level. We recommend using Great Balls here, but it may take a few attempts to catch Stonjourner. So, stock up on Great Balls and go in with a full team so that if you lose any Pokémon here you be able to swap out to another as you try to catch Stonjourner. You should be able to get Stonjourner’s health low quickly with a Grass or Ice-Type Pokémon. We recommend that you have another Pokémon on the team with a higher health pool such as Gyarados to tank the damage as you use your Great Balls to catch Stonjourner. You should also stock up on Potions to keep your Pokémon alive as you are trying to catch this Pokémon.

As Stonjourner is a Scarlet exclusive, those who only own the Violet version will need to trade Pokémon to obtain Stonjourner. Alternatively, players can join their friends inside their Scarlet version to try and obtain Stonjourner themselves.
