The Mahi-mahi is a newly available fish for the month of May in Animal Crossing New Horizons. This is an elusive fish that’s available at all times during the day, but only during certain months out of the year. There are many ways to get the Mahi-mahi, but none of them are easy. In this guide, we’ll show you how to catch Mahi-mahi in Animal Crossing New Horizons.
How to Catch Mahi-mahi in Animal Crossing New Horizons
Unfortunately, there is no easy way to catch the Mahi-mahi fish, but there are a few things you can try to make it easier. It’s normally one of the last fish people catch out of all the rare fish in the Critterpedia. First, you need to make sure you’re fishing at the right time of day during the months it’s available. You also need to make sure you are fishing off a pier to catch a Mahi-mahi.
- Time: All Day
- Northern Hemisphere Months: May – October
- Southern Hemisphere Months: November – April
- Location: Ocean (Pier)
- Shadow Size: Large
Make sure you have a ton of fish bait if you’re going on a journey to catch a Mahi-mahi. You can really burn through a lot of bait trying to catch one of these fish. Throwing fish bait is a good way to scare off smaller fish so you can try and get the Mahi-mahi to spawn.
Some players report better odds of finding Mahi-mahi when it’s raining, though this theory has not been proven. If you believe this is the case, you can use Nook Miles to fly to an island where you can catch Pier fish. You can get lucky and end up on an island that also has an increased chance to spawn rare ocean fish. Find an island that meets these criteria, and if it’s raining then that’s an added bonus.
