The elusive Great Purple Emperor butterfly can be caught during the months of May through August. You can catch this from between the hours of the early morning all the way up until nighttime.

What you want to be looking for is a purple, yellow, and black colored butterfly. From our experience, it is not a very rare butterfly so you should not have a problem catching it.
