How to Catch and Cook Fish in Sons of the Forest – Guide

There are no supermarkets available for you in the wild, but you can be surprised on how many resources you will be able to find in a cannibal and mutant filled island in the middle of nowhere. Perhaps you may want to wait a while before eating or drinking anything, right? No? Oh well, that’s ok. Here is how to catch and cook fish in Sons of the Forest.

How to Catch and Cook Fish in Sons of the Forest

Fish, alongside raw meat that you can collect by hunting wildlife, is one of the main food sources you will be able to find across the island. Before you are able to catch some fish, you must know that you need a weapon such as the axe or even better, the spear. To craft it, just combine one duct tape and two sticks in your inventory. Once you are properly equipped, go ahead and visit a body of water like a river or pond. Attack any fish you see, either by a melee attack, or by throwing your spear.

How to Catch Fish Using a Fish Trap

Another way to catch some fish is to set up a fish trap. You will be able to craft it by using the Guide Book and switching to the Craftable Objects Menu to find the Traps tab. The fish trap requires you to collect 25 sticks. Just pick them around the forest and then head to a river or pond and click E multiple times after selecting the fish trap in your Guide Book to set it up. Once you do, wait some time for a fish to get caught and return to claim it.

How to Cook Fish

Finally, in order to cook the fish you just caught, then you will need to build a basic fire. Select a place where to place it, put down several sticks in the ground (you will have to break them), and then start the fire with your lighter. Once your fire is lit, you can go ahead and place the fish on top until they are fully cooked. Or, if you wish to, you can also eat the raw fish directly from the pond. It is up to you.

And that’s how you fish! If you want to, you can also instruct Kelvin to get some fish on your behalf. You will probably want to guide him to a water body, so go ahead and do that, and you will be ready to go. There are lots of fish, so don’t worry if you get rejected by the first one you encounter.
