War is a very sensitive subject. However, our history has been plagued with them. Furthermore, they have helped define it. Military strategies are quite convoluted and ever-changing. All thanks to technological advances. Maybe there will be an era where no man will be exposed to the horrors of war, and machines will take care of the nasty job. But I have seen enough on the Horizon franchise to know that is a bad idea. But I digress. It is said that soldiers generally win wars. Some say because of their courage, others say it is a game of numbers. Me? I say we start from the basics. Here is how to build a Barracks in Age of Empires 2.
How to Build Barracks
The Barracks is a military building that you will get to build since the very first age, the Dark Age. It is an extremely useful and mandatory building you will have to build, since your Militia and infantry in general will be trained here. Not only that, but thanks to the passing of ages, each of your units will be able to gain upgrades and transform into more advanced units thanks to the technologies that you will be able to research in the Barracks. You can complement this upgrading process with the Blacksmith and you will have units that will be extremely powerful and useful.
Anyway, in order to build the Barracks, you will first have to gather a total of 175 wood and an available area for it to build. Select any villager that is available and select the Military Buildings page. Select the Barracks as your desired building and place it in the terrain. Your villager will automatically start to build the Barracks. If you select a couple more villagers and assign them to build it as well, your Barracks will be up and running way faster. Once the Barracks is ready, train your Militia to have some defensive units in case of an invasion.

Like I said above, don’t neglect your infantry units. Keep researching more technologies in both the Barracks and the Blacksmith in order to get the best infantry units possible at each age.
