How to Beat Nybeth in Tactics Ogre Reborn

A carefully built army and smart choices will help you defeat Nybeth.

Tactics Ogre Reborn is a classic tactical RPG that will have you test different strategies and strain your gray cells to advance. The game will put you in more than a few challenging situations and one of those is the fight with Nybeth. Nybeth is one of the toughest bosses in the game (if not the toughest) so there are quite a few players struggling to take him down.

Prepping for the Fight

Before you even encounter Nybeth, you need to have proper equipment and men. First of all, this boss can afflict some serious damage to you and your party, so healers are a must-have to keep your army vital. Wizards are necessary to exorcise undead enemies that you’ve slain so they don’t revive, and a couple of tanky melee attackers (with strong healing items) should be there to soak up the damage. Nybeth is weakest against piercing damage, so you might want to consider throwing in some crossbows since it’s easier for them than for archers to shoot up (as they would have to in this battle).

Also, it wouldn’t be a bad idea to give your wizards bucklers to make them less squishy.

The Battle

The setup of this battle doesn’t go in your favor since you start at the bottom of the fortress and Nybeth and his army have the higher ground. One strategy that has proven useful here is not to move your characters too far out in the first couple of moves. Let his warriors come to you. Having said that, the name of the game would in the end still be to rush to Nybeth’s face and nuke him.

Since Nybeth is a necromancer he will continuously be summoning units so it is a Sisyphean task to try and kill all of them. Instead aim to kill the highest damage dealers like Ghost Wizards, and get close to Nybeth.

Getting two melee warriors close to him, one preferably Canopus, would be enough while you can let the others deal with his skeletons and the undead. Use Canopus’ ability to fly to get close faster and pick up any Critical buffs that appear to maximize the damage output.

If some of your party members get knocked out, don’t worry. Finishing off the Nybeth before their timers run out will save them from death.
