How to Unlock New Game Plus in Tactics Ogre Reborn

Back to the future.

I love a good new game plus in an RPG. There’s something extremely satisfying about crawling your way to the end of a hard game, then going through it again at max strength, curb-stomping every boss that gave you grief. Tactics Ogre Reborn allows you to do this, albeit in a slightly untraditional manner. Here’s how to unlock new game plus in Tactics Ogre Reborn.

How to Unlock New Game Plus in Tactics Ogre Reborn

Technically speaking, Tactics Ogre Reborn does not have a new game plus, at least not in the traditional sense. There’s no new option on your title screen that allows you to carry your save data into a new story file, for instance. However, there is a special system that basically fills the same niche: the World system.

When you first finish Tactics Ogre Reborn’s campaign however you please, you’ll unlock the World Tarot, which in turn lets you access the World system. Utilizing the World system, you can leap back through the game’s story to set anchor points, prior to major, course-altering decisions you made earlier. You retain any equipment and units between jumps, however, so by using this system, you can instantly leap back to any part of the game you like and run through it again with your complete build. You can also jump all the way back to the beginning of the story if the interest strikes you.

Do You Keep Story-Specific Units?

Some units and equipment are supposed to be locked to a particular story path. However, with the World system, you can go back and recruit characters or receive gear from one branching path, then roll things back to move the story on the path you actually want. Once you unlock something, be it an item or a character, it’s yours for good. Even if a character is supposed to be canonically dead or otherwise unavailable in a particular story branch, as long as you unlocked them once already in a different story branch, you can still use them.

So whether you want to 100% the game or just go back and put your boot up the butt of someone who wronged you, the World system will give you the capability to do so. Paradox-free time travel: how did we live without it?
