As always, light SPOILER WARNING ahead when reading an article like this. As this is the last boss of the campaign, you might want to go ahead and figure it out for yourself. Now Calus isn’t one to be taken lightly, especially if you have chosen to go for the legendary difficulty campaign. On legendary, you’ll need a combination of perfect mobility, precise aiming, and a little bit of luck to defeat him.

As mentioned above, Calus has two pahses. One where he uses his ranged weapon, and one where he uses melee. The first phase will start out a bit hectic due to the amount of extra enemies or ‘adds’ in the boss arena. Thankfully, depending on how you play it, you might not have to deal with them at all. If you do so decide to take them out, Calus will spawn more over the course of his first health bar, so keep that in mind.

The main thing you want to be doing during this first phase, is always be moving. You have the option to use the new ability or not for this fight, but we would recommend using Strand for Calus. If you look at the image above, you will see there are places for you to grapple to around the arena. Use these to run around the map while dealing damage to Calus. The sheer amount of mobility you get by being able to grapple around the arena will help tremendously.

Deal damage to Calus until he puts up his shield and spawns the first Tormentor. Deal with the Tormentor while continuously running around the outside of the arena. After defeating it, break Calus’ shield and continue to damage him. Once he gets to about a third of his health, he’ll spawn the second Tormentor. Deal with this one the same way as the first, and then focus Calus again. Deal with adds if you feel you are being overwhelmed with gunfire, but you should be able to get rid of Calus’ first health bar, initiating phase 2.

After depleting his first health bar, Calus will become enraged, split his ranged weapon into two swords, and starts running. The arena shrinks slightly and if you’re outside the new arena, you can get a few potshots off before you get teleported into it. This is where the fight can put a lot of pressure on you, regardless if you’re on normal or legendary campaign. Calus will be constantly charging you looking for any opportunity to use his swords and deal big damage. There are still strand grapple points in the smaller boss arena, so use these to your benefit. Extra enemies will spawn in groups, and you can use these enemies to replenish any heavy or power ammo if you are running out. But essentially for this fight, the name of the game is to survive.

You will need to make sure you are keeping distance from Calus by using grappling away, while dealing damage in between. He might occasionally put up a shield like he did in the first phase, but other than that this fight is a test of endurance. Just make sure you deal consistent damage and his health will be gone in no time. Congratulations, you’ve just stopped Calus! But does that mean we truly won?
