How Old is Atreus in God Of War Ragnarok

A coming of age tale.

Also known as Loki, Atreus is the son of Kratos, the hero and protagonist in God of War. In the sequel of the game, God of War Ragnarök, he looks a little bit older, but by how much at this point? As one of our guides for God of War Ragnarök, here we provide an answer as to how old Atreus is.

What is Atreus’ age in God of War Ragnarok

In God of War, Atreus was 11 years old. As the critically acclaimed sequel takes place roughly three years after the previous game, Atreus is 14 years old in God of War Ragnarök. This is confirmed by Mimir as Fimbulwinter is said to last for three years, leading up to the events in the sequel, which occur just before Ragnarök began.

Mimir, previously known as Puck, is a Celtic fae who was Odin’s advisor and the ambassador of the Aesir gods until Odin was imprisoned. He becomes an ally to Kratos and Atreus after they free him.

Will God of War be a trilogy?

The creators from the game’s developer, Santa Monica Studio, initially considered wrapping up the Norse saga through a trilogy of games. Ultimately, creative director Cory Barlog decided that it is best for the franchise that the whole story arc is tied up in God of War Ragnarök, keeping it to only two games.

This decision was made upon the consideration of the amount of time needed to develop and produce a third and final game, making the fans wait a total of at least 15 years before the story is concluded.

Atreus is intended to be portrayed as young teen in the saga

It is not new for video game actors, or actors in general, to portray a character that is a lot younger than their age in real life. Atreus’ Sunny Suljic was 13 years old at the time of the release of God of War, and then 17 years old with God of War Ragnarök. If there were to be another installment in the franchise, Suljic would have reached his 20s.

The actor’s deepened voice is apparent in the sequel, and dividing the narrative into two games instead of a trilogy makes more sense in this case, as making an actor in his 20s play an adolescent character is unrealistic, as we can hear Suljic as a prepubescent boy in God of War, and the narrative intends to effectively portray him as a young boy in his early teens.
