Most good stories require a few major components: an introduction, a build-up, a climax, and a conclusion. It’s always interesting to see this in a movie or a book, because it has to be condensed somewhat, but in a big-time game like Cyberpunk 2077, the writers have a little more room to get creative. Here’s how many acts there are in Cyberpunk 2077.

Taking only the main storyline into consideration, Cyberpunk 2077 has exactly two acts, as well as a prologue and an epilogue. Each of these acts are bookended by major story beats, and also serve as progression bottlenecks. You’ll usually know when the game is shifting gears, but if it happens to go over your head, you can also tell when the act changes if a large swath of the game map opens up.

Now, without getting into spoiler territory, here’s what the acts are composed of:

  1. The Prologue is a brief story that changes depending on the life path you selected while creating your V. Nomad, Streetkid, and Corpo will each start the game off differently, though the rest of the game will be more or less the same, barring a few subtle shifts.
  2. Act 1 starts with the first mission following the end of the prologue. This is where the bulk of the game is played; the city will gradually open up more as you progress, and more jobs and missions will be added to your journal.
  3. Act 2 opens up a larger swath of the city, along with more jobs and missions. You can keep going at your own pace here, but bear in mind that when it’s time for the story’s final mission, you’ll receive a warning that you’re crossing the point of no return. Once you cross it, you’ll have to finish the story before you can do any more side stuff, so if you have something you need to tend to, do it beforehand.
  4. After you’ve cleared the final mission, you’ll receive an epilogue based on the choices you made throughout the story. After that, you can return to the city right before the final mission to continue playing.
