How Long is the Outriders Story?

The question of story length has become a bit of a tricky, multilayered matter when it comes to triple-A big box game releases. Online, live service games are designed to keep you playing as long as physically possible (because if you’re still playing, you’re still paying, presumably). If, however, decide a game’s “length” based solely on the approximate amount of time it takes to clear all of the important story missions, that can help to clear things up a bit. So, with that in mind, how long is the Outriders story?

Putting aside all side missions and optional content, Outriders’ story campaign is made up of 25 main missions. If you focus exclusively on completing only these missions with one character class, it can take you anywhere from 25 to 30 hours to finish the game’s story, according to Square Enix. However, by Square Enix’s estimates, if you go for a more complete playthrough by finishing sidequests and engaging in optional content, your playthrough could stretch out two to three times longer than that. That’s anywhere from 50 to 75 hours of playtime.

“If you just want to complete the main campaign, you’ll experience the full story and have a great time with this game. But if you want to spend more time in the world of Outriders, getting the best items and taking on the hardest challenges in the game, it can keep you busy for exponentially longer,” Square Enix said about the game in their official FAQ.

Since Outriders is a looter-shooter in the same vein as Destiny or Borderlands, there’s also lots of content updates scheduled to come out down the line, presumably also including story DLC, which will likely extend that playtime estimate even further. There’s also the fact that there’s four different character classes to run through the game with, so if you’re a completionist, your total engagement time with Outriders could run as long as 300 hours. Hope you don’t have anything else planned for the next couple of months.
