How Long is Cyberpunk 2077’s Main Story?

To paraphrase a certain large-eared businessman, time is a highly limited commodity. There are only so many hours in the day, and you can only commit so many of them to a particular game. We’ve got things to do and places to be, so I wouldn’t fault you for wanting to get through Cyberpunk 2077’s story in an expedient manner. Here’s how long it’ll take you to get through Cyberpunk 2077’s main story.

Now, there’s a couple of definitions of “main story” we could roll with here. The first and most obvious definition is speeding through only the game’s main story missions. No unnecessary character interaction, no sidequests, no lollygagging between point A and point B. If you choose to play the game in this manner, then completing the main story will probably take you somewhere in the range of 15 to 20 hours.

On the other hand, the second definition of completing the main story we could use is completing both the main story missions and any story-adjacent missions. This includes the main story as well as conversations and sidequests with major plot characters like Johnny, Rogue, and Panam. Rogue and Panam’s side missions in particular would need to be completed to give you access to all of the game’s possible endings, and if you want to see the different story outcomes in all of those endings, that’s some more time tacked on at the end. So all in all, going for a more fleshed out story experience will probably extend your total playtime by another 15-30 hours, bringing it as high as 50.

How Long is Cyberpunk 2077’s Main Story?

In summary, Cyberpunk 2077‘s main story is approximately 15 to 20 hours. Completing all the side jobs and gigs will take another 15-30 hours, bringing the entire gameplay to about 50 hours. It does not include the time spent to find legendary weapons and clothing. You could undoubtedly get hundreds of hours of gameplay out of the game if you are going for full completion.

Whether you stick exclusively to the main missions or go for the adjacent stuff, remember that how quickly you beat the story will also depend on how much additional stuff you get involved in. Even if you do play only the main missions, some grinding or hunting for vital gear is essentially unavoidable, not to mention the occasional death. Your own skill will factor into how long this whole thing takes you, more so if the difficulty’s turned up.
