Stairs are a simple but vital component in Terraria. They serve more purposes than players may think. From having access to higher areas, and keeping safe from some enemies, to just plain nice aesthetics. Plus, when making a home base, stairs give players access to elevated spaces. Making expansion all the more easier. Granted, while there are other ways of going up and down, like rope and chains, only stairs allow NPCs to use them and interact with other NPCs. While more experienced players may already know this information, for newer gamers, this can save some time. So long as you have the proper materials and a hammer, making stairs is a simple affair.
Making Stairs in Terraria
As mentioned earlier, a hammer is a prerequisite in making stairs. Other than that, materials are pretty varied. Though to keep it simple, we’ll stick with simple wood. To make wooden platforms, use the sawmill to turn one wood into two wooden platforms. From here on its as simple as point and click. Place the platforms wherever you like. It’s important to note that for stairs, the platforms must be diagonal and go in one direction.

Once placed, simply use the hammer to left-click the platforms. This will cycle the different uses platforms can be used for. In this instance, players will be using them to become stars. Once all platforms have been turned into stairs, rinse and repeat for as many stairs as you want.
